Does this Criterion forum group ever organize an event in which anyone interested watches the same film over the same evening, so that there's a stimulated conversation about that particular film the next day?
I only ask because, aside from my one friend who's willing to watch pretty much anything, most people I know aren't willing to try classics or foreign films (bunch of savages!). Thought it might be cool to have an intellectual conversation with other like-minded individuals about a specific film... |

Let's hope that Criterion will release the Beatles films on blu.
After all, they have been releasing quite a few United Artists film as of late. All these films were released by Unted Artists originally: A Hard Days Night Help! Yellow Submarine Let It Be The Compleat Beatles (great ducumentary) not sure who owns Magical Mystery Tour (just add it as an extra since it's a TV special) or The Beatles First US Visit I'm sure dealing w/ Apple Corps.(the one's who control the music rights) would be the biggest stumbling block. |

Does anyone know exactly what the criteria is for a Criterion release? Obviously they have their share of foreign and art house films, but there is also the mainstream (Armageddon), the independent (The Darjeeling Limited), and those in public domain (Charade).
I understand it's a case of rights as well. Which leads me to my second question: there are two blu-ray releases of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (and soon to be for Dazed and Confused), anyone know why studios would even bother to two separate, seemingly competing, releases of the same film? |
