Dear God, The Great Dictator is absolutely outstanding. The transfer is great, the movie is great, the extras are great. What a fantastic release.

I'm in the same situation, only one friend who will watch anything I throw at him but others, not so much.

And that's why I need a girlfriend

It should be any day now...... sometimes they take awhile.

That's a pretty good deal.... especially since people are using these 20% off member coupons plus cashiers are letting them do some $8 off $40 deal etc.... I heard people getting CC Blu-rays for $14.xx + tax..... not too shabby!

I wish the clerks at my B&N would do that. They ALWAYS read the fine print and it clearly says on the coupon it can not be combined with with another coupon or promotional discount. I tried it with the America Lost & Found Collection but they guy said no.

I know. I'm wondering the same thing. A couple months ago, Amazon took two or three days to get the new blus up, but for the October releases, it's now a week since Criterion announced them. It's irritating. I'm itching to put my preorders in. I know they obviously don't come out for a few months, but still.

My mother is watching my copy of Night of the Hunter right now. I always ship my parcels to her place, as I usually visit on the weekends, and I know I'll get them there, and not have to worry about sketchy areas to pick up parcels and missed deliveries. I let her open the stuff to make sure it's there. Usually she doesn't like any of the BDs I order.

What's the chance of Criterion reissuing "Silence of the Lambs" on blu?
They just released "Something Wild" on blu, also a Jonathan Demme film from Orion Pictures.

Would also be cool is they would re-release:
Robocop
Sid and Nancy

I loved Pale Flower
I've also watched 4 films in my Nikkatsu Noir set and I'd definitely recommend it.
Seijin Suzuki films are also very cool (one of his is in the Nikkatsu set), but you should probably stay away from the Criterion Branded To Kill and Tokyo Drifter DVDs, as they're reportedly bad transfers.

Not sure if this has already been answered but what's the "average" shipping time for B&N?

I watched The Four Feathers (1939) on TCM yesterday. The film was very good and should make another outstanding Criterion release. June Duprez and Ralph Richardson gave strong performances under the direction of Zoltan Korda.

The Silence of the Lambs and Robocop were licensed from Image Entertainment who does not own the rights for Orion catalogue anymore and the DVDs are out-of-print. They are now owned by MGM who has recently licensed quite a lot to Criterion, so there is a possibility.

Sid & Nancy on the other hand was licensed from New Line who is now merged with Warner, and Warner does not like to license films to others.

Where do you live? It took two weeks for me to get my first order to a rural area in central Nova Scotia. Mind you Canada Post is still a cluster-fark with backlogs.

I just watched Red from The Three Colors Trilogy, and now I need this on Blu-ray. I rented it on DVD since I love The Double Life of Veronique, and I wasn't disappointed. I hope Criterion does announce Three Colors before the end of the year. I still have yet to see Blue or White.

pretty sure MGM owns Sid and Nancy, not New Line

Did these studios, especially Studio Canal, license their film libraries to Criterion for pennies on the dollar originally? It's not like most of the films they've taken back from Criterion are incredibly popular (outside a certain niche consumer), so unless they originally licensed the films for an incredibly low price and now Criterion isn't willing to pay a higher price, I'm not sure why these studios would let the license agreements expire.

If it's all about money, wouldn't a high-price license agreement be more valuable (you're guaranteed that money) than taking up producing all the discs for these films, marketing them, and then hoping they sell well? Or did the studios try to do that and Criterion just didn't have the resources to pay the higher license fees to keep the films?

I'm in Pasadena, California. Hopefully mine won't take that long.
