You are correct. I first heard about it somewhere on Twitter. If I remember correctly, Powell's is putting it out.

You might consider holding onto it and trading it down the line, although I guess you probably won't save much by doing that.

I had no trouble finding it, but when I put it in the cart and enter the code *bam* empty cart...
Tested a couple of other titles, same behaviour. Tried just to do a normal checkout with The Killing in my cart, the same thing happened.

I might have p****d DD off at some point (I completely stopped using them after roughly half of the titles that should have had slipcovers arrived without them), but I'll just wait until November and hope B&N has their sale there again.

And speaking of the B&N sale, the following just shipped:

Fat Girl
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Insignificance
Leon Morin, Priest
Life During Wartime
Makioka Sisters
Naked
Pale Flower
Smiles of a Summer Night
Something Wild
Sweetie
The Times of Harvey Milk
Zazie Dans Le Metro
Beauty and the Beast
High and Low
The Music Room
Robinson Crusoe on Mars

You could try returning your BN copy to the store itself. If that fails, you could always sell it online brand new after the sale is over and make a profit.

Perhaps I should have specified that I was only talking about Criterion for my blind buyibg habbits. In actuality, counting my Criterions, only 30 of the 95 Blu-Rays I own have been blind buys. I seem to blind buy Criterions moreso than any other studio.

It's coming from B&N for $17.99 plus about $1.50 or so in tax.....

I pre-ordered from Amazon when it was $25

So basically, returning it to Amazon to get $22 back, making the total cost of the one I ordered $22.50 or so, is probably my best bet.

Oh well..... I still got lots of great deals..... just $3 and a little bit of time is all my error will cost me.

I will just re-tape the package they sent it to me in (I pulled the glue, and not the "zip-strip" part to open it, so it might not even need tape, but I will just to be safe) so I don't have to get any packaging etc.... and I'm at the UPS store often enough.... oh well!

No problem. That's why I am trying to stay away from a lot of the Criterion DVD's, even though so many of them are soooo tempting.

the funny thing imo is that Criterion releases are more risky than many other films-- critics choice/obscure films can be for very limited audiences. They can be absolute gems that you are thrilled to discover, or they can be pretentious borefests that you find difficult to sit through....

hey guys I have enough money left for 2 more Blu-Rays, and I'm having a tough time deciding between 4 titles, all would be blind-buys, some input would be appreciated. Keep in mind I'm a big Supplement fan, that's the main reason I've laid off Pale Flower and Charade tbh.

The Double Life of Veronique
Charade
Pale Flower
Pierrot Le Fou (I know I'd be rolling the dice at this point)

everybody should be snagging The Killing for $19 with the $5 Deep Discount Coupon right now, it's $6 shipping to Canada, which unfortantely lessens the deal for me, but even for $25 it's a steal.

I just blind bought The Double Life of Veronique, and absolutely fell in love with the film. I watched it twice in one week, and once more with the commentary. There are a ton of extras on the set, too. I highly recommend it.

that's probably the one I'm getting for sure and tbh I'm not really a Godard fan and the only reason I was going to get Pierrot Le Fou is because it's going out of print, so I may just use the 20% discount and go solely with Veronique, unless someone tells me that Charade or Pale Flower are must haves.

The difference between the DVD and Criterion's BD of The Killing is certainly notable from the screenshots at DVDBeaver. In my opinion, Criterion's one has a lot more detail, the best example of it is the screen with the gentlemen sitting in a round table at the kitchen . The only thing that appears somewhat lacking to me is the transfer of Killer's Kiss. I know it is an extra but I don't see much of an step forward from the DVD screens .

ya I noticed that too, but because it's an extra a lot less time was probably put into that one than The Killing. Anyways, The Killing is a much better film in all aspects anyways and getting Killer's Kiss as an Extra in HD, even though it may not be a pristine transfer is still an amazing inclusion.

I love Pierrot, but I wouldn't blind buy it unless you already know and like Godard (e.g., Contempt/Breathless). On the other hand, though, it's denser than it seems on the surface and deserves many viewings. It's sorta similar to Breathless, carefree and spontaneous, but it plays up this interesting dynamic between high-art and pop-art. It doesn't really have much of a plot, but of course the plot of the film isn't the point. It's more about the possibilities of film.

I think Charade is a good blind-buy though. Unfamiliar with the other two.

Those were just my Criterions dude. I have 95 blus, and almost 600 DVDs. I have way more DVD blind buys.

Stun bunny question, why is Killer's Kiss counted as a second film, But Murder a la Mod isn't?

Wow...that's difficult. Since you already stated in a later post that Veronique is a definite, and Pierrot has been set aside...I would say you could go either way with Charade or Pale Flower and you would be getting a film I thoroughly enjoy. However...in the interest of making a decision, and in celebration of the upcoming 50th Anniversary release of Breakfast At Tiffany's on blu-ray, I recommend Charade, a very fun Audrey Hepburn film!

EDIT: BTW, I don't blind buy...and after watching all four of these films, I added them to my collection. Great choices!!!

Agreed! It was on MPIX this past Sunday at my parents' place, and all I could do was whine about how the PQ was so much better on my Criterion BD.
