Can't wait for The Killing / Killer's Kiss. I've been in such a Kubrick mood lately. I stumbled across an analysis of The Shining and I've been dying to rewatch that too - there is an article and a couple videos that posit that the architecture of the hotel is purposefully inconsistent and spatially impossible to subliminally add extra unease. Fascinating read!

Aki Kaurismaki’s Le Havre has been picked up by Janus, so a Criterion release is very likely.
also: how safe is The Wages of Fear to buy if I really loved Diabolique? Last edited by keldons; 07-27-2011 at 09:12 PM. |

I just finished watching "M" last night. When the movie ended, I said "wow" and was thinking- is that the end?
What a powerful performance by Peter Lorre- he's so creepy and convincing. The movie fades to black just as the final statement is made, symbolizing (in my opionion) the lost hope of justice the victims had. The desperation and the sad acceptance of the conclusion to the story. A great movie and one I think that really has stood the test of time. |

Does anyone know if there is a possibility from Criterion to release 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days? I saw the film months ago and was totally blown-away by it. Such powerful performances; just the scene from the hotel room deserved to won the Palm d'Or

The Criterion Collection needs to seriously take a look at The Keep and Thief, undoubtedly two of the best films to slide under the radar in their time and only in the past decade have gained appreciation. Also same director, Micheal Mann.
They gave us Wages of Fear, but I want the far superior remake/adaptation called Sorcerer by William Friedkin. That movie has stunts, effects and performances that demand a restoration and appreciation by modern audiences. Last edited by Trekkie313; 07-27-2011 at 10:15 PM. |

Ok, I just did a double feature of Black Moon and Hausu. I love Black Moon as much as I love a Safe place (not much), but Hausu was absolutely hilarious! It was so bad it was good, and I now want to own this movie. It's kinda funny because I had no interest in Hausu, but was very interested in Black Moon. I seem to be on a Japanese cinema kick I guess.

Just watched my Paths of Glory blu. The first time I watched this film, I wasn't particularly stricken by it, but upon my second viewing just now I have to admit that it is an excellent film through and through. Very nearly a perfect film, I can't really find any faults in the components that comprise it -- the cinematography, the acting performances, the pacing are all superb. Very highly recommended to anyone who hasn't yet seen it, very strong looking transfer as well.

Watched Leon Morin, Priest yesterday afternoon. The Video looks very impressive for a 50 year old film. The film itself was excellent, but what really struck me from my first viewing was the quality of the performances of the two leads. (Jean-Paul Belmondo and Emmanuelle Riva)
This is an intelligent and balanced examination of the topics of religion, politics, and love set in a small countryside village during WWII. This is probably my favorite performance I have seen from Belmondo, a real surprise from Jean-Pierre Melville. |
