I love the film because it's so open-ended and subjective. Every time I watch it I have a different interpretation of the film. It has infinite re-play value.
Last Year at Marienbad is the foreign language film that bugs me having to read subtitles the most. It is such a beautiful film, it is a shame to have your attention taken away by reading subtitles. I have seen the film a dozen times or so and may be able to remember enough of the dialogue to give it a try without subs sometime just to focus on the visuals. (tried to learn french in school and did not do so well)

The french language has a lovely sound, I think it compliments the film.

just purchased my first ever blu-ray today thanks to this sale!

i went to my local B&N looking for either The 400 Blows or 8 1/2. 400 blows had slight priority for me until i saw the packaging that it came in. horrible crappy packaging. stupid digipak thing unlike every other Criterion BD that i saw there. ive always despised this kind of packaging for CD's and DVD's. it was already all crushed and slanted on an angle. as bad as i wanted the movie, i couldnt do it for my first BD. a bit anal perhaps, but man that packaging sucks.

so 8 1/2 it is! whoo, go me!

glad i saw took a look in this topic this morning. thanks for the heads up about the sale guys.

Did you make a label art, too?

Post it on the Criterion Facebook-page I'm sure those guys will love it!
If it helps, it's how I made all my monies for the last 3 years.

I don't buy that for a minute. That would be a tremendous amount of work to pull a prank.

Your money or your movies?
I'm a student and am filming with a Canon 7D, editing in Premiere and do the grading and some other stuff, like titles, in AE.

The early Criterion blu-ray releases had those packages, but you can order a replacement case for $5. Not that I'm suggesting you should have bought a damaged good and then immediately pay for a replacement case. Just pointing it out.

Depending on the title, if you order online from barnesandnoble.com it could come in the amaray case already. My order of Bottle Rocket came in the hard plastic case. I'm sure it depends on the title though, maybe all of them are updated by now but I can't personally vouch for that.

http://www.criterion.com/shop_produc...-the-400-blows

It seems to me that the stores don't have a huge turnover of these titles, even WITH these sales. I guess some sell better than others, but a few of the DVD box sets especially look like they were sitting there for multiple years. I wanted to get the "Postwar Kurosowa set", but the copy in store was just so beat up looking it was rediculous. I couldn't buy it. Their copy of Seven Samurai also had a slight crease on the spine, but it wasn't so bad so I got that one anyway.

Does anyone can comment in the quality of this product?

http://www.criterion.com/shop_produc...erion-t-shirt#

I mean, sure, they are not exactly Criterion "films" but I find this t-shirt quite appealing . The logo is really cool and it would be nice to have one of them. So anyone here owns one of this ?

+1000 on this.

But Studio Canal own the rights. They listed it in a poll they made about a year ago where they asked what title they should release next on Blu.

Do you remember what the results were? Are they going to put it out?

Yeah, they may as well have just paid me in movies and guitars.

I'm a student right now as well, heading into my 4th year of animation at Sheridan College up here in Canada, I usually composite individual shots in AE, then bring them into Premiere, as laggy as it can be :P)! I plan on making a very old-school-film-noir inspired animation! Here are a couple rough character ideas if anyone's interested: http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/3...thtogether.png

I do have cover art made for Othello, this is it here: http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/5...isccriteri.jpg

And I would also love to see The Trial released by Criterion as well (possibly my favorite Welles film!), but that'll probably never happen either :/

So here's what I came out with from the B&N sale:

-Beauty and the Beast (Havn't watched yet)
-High and Low (Amazing)
-Solaris (Havn't watched yet, seen the first half but I'm not counting that as actually watching it)
-Naked (Amazing)
-Breathless (Upgrade from DVD which I traded in for $15 store credit at Soundgarden in Baltimore, which I shop at an obscene amount haha)
-Summer Hours (Amazing)
-Mystery Train (Havn't watched yet, will be my first Jarmusch)
-Pale Flower (Havn't watched yet)
-Black Moon (Loved it, definately picking up Zazie Dans Le Metro soon)
-Life During Wartime (Picked up Happiness on DVD before buying this one and am now really looking forward to watching this one)

My bank account hurts but o well

Awesome stuff, mate! Those concept sketches look great! I love Noir flicks. Lookin' forward to see more...
The cover is incredible. I'd buy it right away, if Criterion would do it with the same cover...

Thanks for the kind words man! I have to keep hopin' Criterion can get their mitts on this stuff again, since Eureka can get "Touch of Evil" then I gotta believe it's possible haha. I absolutely love noir, so I figured my 4th year film would have to be a representation of my nerdy obsession with it, once it's all finished up I'll post it around here for people to see (and hopefully enjoy! ).

B&N has killed my bank account this month.

Red Shoes
High and Low
Diabolique
Yojimbo
Double Life of Veronique
Paths of Glory
Le Cercle Rouge
KAgemusha

Just wish a few of the titles that are out next month were already out.

I would think that this would make a very good addition to the CC if they could get a hold of the rights.
I love In A Lonely Place (hence the avatar) and think it would be a great addition to the collection. I also highly recommend the novel, which is also great, although for different reasons.
