Who really cares if he looks down on people who like batman and robin or you look down on people who like kurosawa. Everyone has different tastes.

That's kind of the very definition of the word 'snob'. What directors film a snob likes really doesn't change anything.

Picked up America Lost and Found and The Double Life of Veronique. I've been wanting these for a while. Going to pick some more up later this week.

it was the point I was making as an example. Metallica obviously isn't obscure, neither is Bieber. I would very well like to carry on away from this now.

Paris, Texas
The Secret of the Grain
El Norte
Broadcast News
The Double Life of Veronique
I loved Paris, Texas I would def. recommend it. The Secret of the Grain bored me. I really enjoyed El Norte, and I was not expecting to like it. I loved Broadcast News as well, I ordered the blu ray. I have not seen The Double Life of Veronique.

Yes it does. I'm sad and relieved at the same time. My wallet needs a break.

Overvaluing the obscure is not a metric of its quality. It is just so much ersatz hipster bullshit oneupmanship.

Try judging a film by its merits and not by how many kids in your homeroom haven't seen it.

Well, according to some of the previous posts made since this morning, I probably shouldn't even be posting in this thread anymore, and I need to sell off all my Criterions, since I'm obviously watching them incorrectly, and don't deserve to own them due to some of the other films in my collection. I mean, horrors upon horrors, I keep them on a shelf next to films such as the 2003 Freaky Friday remake, Splitting Heirs, Spy Hard, Clifford, and The Avengers!

And OMG, Critierion has gone down the tube too! They allowed The Monkees, the first ever teenybopper group who never played their own instruments, to join the collection! They're becoming waaay too mainstream with all these people buying the films through this B&N sale! We're getting too many people in this thread who like Batman & Robin, and those who are buying these films because they are supposedly so prestigious and make one a TRUE Blu-Ray collector!

Sorry for the rant, and to stir the pot even more, but do anyone of you realise how ridiculous you sound? Why can't people watch films because they enjoy them, and not because a bunch of critics say it's sooo deep and thought-provoking, and humanity will be better after seeing this film?

HD 335, I've only seen Broadcast News, but I found it enjoyable. Albert Brooks was one of the best things about the film.

Do you ever go over to get a Criterion only to find they've moved to another shelf and have no idea how they might have gotten there?

I didn't even know about the sale at B&N until this morning, but I stopped by and picked up a few titles I've been wanting for a while:

Blu-Ray:
Yojimbo/Sanjuro

DVD:
Brazil (3-Disc Set)
The Last Temptation of Christ
Man Bites Dog

I haven't seen Yojimbo, Sanjuro, or Brazil before, but I've heard great things so I can't wait to check them out.

It's not. I agree with you. I'm just pointing out how ridiculous some of the posts are on here. From what films belong in the collection, to what non-collection films people like, and how the damn packaging looks, half the time people aren't even discussing the movies and why they like or dislike them. It's more about how much of a film snob one is because they own Salo or 8 1/2, and anyone who doesn't buy those films is too stupid to understand them, and how they would never stoop to buying something like Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School.

Speaking of 8 1/2, I just finished watching it. I found it to be interesting, amusing, boring in parts, confusing, yet, enjoyable. I thought that Guido was an idiot though, and should have treated Luisa better.

Albert Brooks is awesome in just about everything he's in. I agree that he was the best character in the film. William Hurt was a giant douche, and I still thought he was a douche at the end of the film. He was loathsome. Holly Hunter's character, while fantastically acted, was just so stupid! She started out fine, but towards the middle of the film, I really disliked her, although not as much as I hated William Hurt's character. She did redeem herself in the end though, as she didn't go the way William Hurt's character did, although it was looking a little shaky there mid-film. Broadcast news is really one of those films you need to watch repeatedly to really appreciate it. I didn't like it so much the first time I saw it, but it's definitely improved the more I watch it.

Albert Brooks, hell yeah! I have his comedy LP called "Comedy Minus One", plus he made one heck of a film debut in Taxi Driver.

I watched a film he did a few years ago with my mom, it was called (of all things) "Mother", it co-starred Debbie Reynolds.

He as an actor has done a bit of something for everyone, he even voiced one of the clownfish (Marlin) in Finding Nemo ( need the blu please Disney/Pixar)

Thanks for both your input, it's going to be tough choices when I get there later.
