Just got most of my haul from the B&N sale: "Beauty and the Beast," "Blow Out," "Diabolique," and "Double Life of Veronique." They're all blind-buys, but I got good feelings about them. I'll probably watch two of them tonight!

Since the title is a potential blind buy of mine I'd love to hear some details of why you could not get into it?

Couldn't agree with you more. One of my favorite movies!

Watched the special Features on The Music Room. The 2 hour documentary on the director was very good. The Music Room is now one of my favorite films. Can't wait to watch it again. Thanks to everyone who recommended it.

With that being said, my reasoning was based on the fact that I don't want to support a dealer who can't even ship on the same continent in a reasonable amount of time. It's not like I couldn't buy the movie for 26$ shipped from somewhere else. I don't even mind paying 30$ for it if I know I'll get it in a week and not three (or more, who knows).

Hope I've clarified things a bit. With that being said, I bought the movie on eBay for around the same price. Let's see if I get it before the end of the month!
Understood. Thanks for clarifying your position.

And...it's a race! The first one of us who receives High 'n' Low and posts back here wins!

I can understand. I watched it a few weeks ago. While I like Donald Pleasance a lot and I got a couple chuckles out of this film, it was just okay for me. Not my favorite of Polanski's.

Just watched Kiss Me Deadly, and what in the hell?!?!? The first 3/4 of this movie was all fine and dandy, but I don't even know what to think about where it went at the end and how rushed and abrupt and incomplete the final stretch and the ending were. I was not expecting my film-noir movie to turn into a dated 50s sci-fi movie... What a weird freaking film, I don't think I liked it... Probably a 5/10, a weak entry in my favorite film genre...

I watched The Music Room last week in a double bill with Fear and Loathing (quite possibly the oddest pairing that worked surprisingly well). It really is quite wonderful. Also as a footnote, it is clear from practically the first shot of The Music Room how much Wes Anderson has cribbed from Ray. Good stuff.

Also, Bizarre_eye, how is that even possible that your copy of The Killing/Killer's Kiss shipped!? It doesn't come out for another two weeks!
American women seem to REALLY have a problem with the "C-Word" version of this as well. Everyone in the UK (both men and women) seem to throw it around like it's nothing.

We Americans are too hung up...

I actually found it humorous (maybe not a good thing in a noir hahaha). It totally caught me off guard but it didn't ruin the whole experience for me at all. I just found it part of the 50's charm (i.e. their ignorance of certain technologies of the time - don't want to give away any spoilers).

Just don't take it so seriously...

But it's not a comedy, and it's not Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The first 3/4 of the film makes it clear that you're supposed to take it seriously. It wasn't only the random sci-fi/fear of new technology element that bothered me, though; it was moreso how it was presented and the collapse of the film's script down the stretch.

Meh. In my experience, very few noirs from 1951 onward are as good as the noirs from 1941-1950.

Planet Axel always ship as soon as they receive stock, which is one of the reasons I like purchasing from them. The Big Lebowski (which is released on the same day) was shipped with it, too.

However, I also ordered Black Moon from them and that is showing as in stock, but is still yet to ship; hopefully tomorrow!

60 years ago I doubt it was viewed as funny or cheesy, it's only humorous in hindsight because we know how off the mark they were as to the reality of radiation exposure and whatnot

I'm not defending the ending, I also found it abrupt. But it wasn't as disastrous as you are making it out to be just for the "sci-fi" elements.

Disastrous only in the sense that the film had potential and squandered it with its ungainliness. That happens a lot with movies I think of as 5/10s (e.g., The Red Shoes). Lately I am watching a lot of 50+ year old movies for the first time and finding a lot of them too dated for my liking. I'm starting to get nervous about watching Cocteau's B&tB later today.

For me,
[Show spoiler] the paranoia that drives the ending fits very well with the paranoia that drives the rest of the film. In that sense, I think the ending works great. It's noir for the nuclear age.

The difference is Batman and Robin are terrible films regardless of who you are. Cool, you think Bergman is boring, it doesn't change the fact that he's an amazing filmmaker. Likewise you may enjoy B&R but that doesn't alter the fact it's absolutely terrible and butchered every character in it.

You should give it another try, it is definitely a bizarre film. My first reaction after seeing Cul-de-Sac was indifference, but after several more viewings I warmed up to it quite a bit. I guess I just like strange films. If you decide that it is just not for you shoot me a PM and perhaps I will take it off your hands.

As far as the ending of Kiss Me Deadly, it is a big part of what makes it great IMO.

I'm not American. Je suis une Canadienne. :P

I only use the c-word when I get severe road rage (HRM drivers are nuts on a good day, but some of them really take the cake), I normally use a combination word of it and a synonym that begins with T.

I know that the majority of people in this thread have probably seen Kiss Me Deadly, and if you haven't, then shame on you, but for the love of Pete please use spoiler tags. It's not hard folks.

The ending of Kiss Me Deadly is what makes it great. It would have just been another Film Noir movie if it wasn't for the ending.
