The Graduate, 2001:ASO, Taxi Driver, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Rushmore, TGTBATU, Requiem for a Dream, Diving Bell & the Butterfly, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Sullivan's Travels, Sunset Blvd, Ben-Hur, American Beauty, Dark City, Man Who Wasn't There, Ace in the Hole, Caddyshack, Manchurian Candidate (62).
A few movies that very narrowly miss this list are Vertigo, Jules & Jim, La Jetee, Persona, Le Samourai, and Network.
Thanks, I am a big Sturges fan. Good list yourself.

Anyone excited for THE FOUR FEATHERS?

I finally got around to watching the recorded TCM broadcast of it. While certainly not a bad film it just didn't do much for me. I found it to be too stuffy and uneven. Although, I know some people will buy it because of its cover art.

I've never seen it before, and netflix does not have the DVD, suprise suprise. I can probably watch it on youtube. I do want to see it.

I watched it on DVR courtesy of TCM as well. I did enjoy the movie though. Am looking forward to the upcoming release now.

My haul from the sale. Oh and I just received my car registration renewal. What I spent on this sale could have covered registration, emissions, safety and new windshield. Oh well...

Not seeing enough People on Sunday, people.

Start adding that to your Nov lists - you won't regret it.

There's a few Criterions that Amazon still sells at close to $20 (Blow Out, Paths of Glory), Walmart.com had a few under $20 last time I checked as well. I think that's still alot even though getting anywhere close to $20 about as good as it usually gets outside of B&N sale. Going over $30+ is just crazy IMO.
Monterey Pop is a two disc set, unlike the others listed. Also, it's still cheaper than the Canadian retail prices, both online and in B&M stores. Wal-Mart doesn't sell Criterions where I live. Most Canadians can't get BDs, let alone Criterions, for under 20 bucks. Sometimes it's cheaper to pay the 25 on a new release, than it is to import it for under 20, because tax and shipping drive the price back up. In this case, although Monterey is more than what it was on sale, it's still cheaper than Amazon US and CA, and places like HMV. B&N charges less tax and shipping for Canadians than Amazon does.

Canadians really do get screwed when it comes to media prices, especially on Criterions.

Yeah isn't this the truth. I wish they would change their MSRP's as they are priced $10-$15 dollars higher for Canadians, despite our dollar being at par or above the US dollar for some time now.

I'd love Rushmore to come out on BD, but the DVD has been out of print for some time, no?

Thumbs up

Finally got to watching "Bigger Than Life" which I bought a few Criterion sales ago, damn great film, great performnaces by all. Incredible Cinemascope transfer, AQ was great too. Watched a couple of the stellar suppilmantals too, 5 star package from CC!
Just a good a film as director Nicholas Ray's more known "Rebel Without a Cause" imo. (of course I want that on blu as well)

No, the DVD is still in-print. Even though many online retailers may not have it, the disc is readily available from Criterion's site with no hint of it ever going OOP.

It's the same with everything, books are still higher in stores, although they have knocked down the price of them online. Clothing is also more expensive. Electronics, on the other hand, are about par, or sometimes cheaper. It's a pain, but it's something we unfortunately have to live with. I was just pointing out some of the pricing differences in case people missed the sale. B

Bigger Than Life is one of my favourite Blind Buys/Criterions. James Mason and Walter Matthau were just fantastic. I thgouht BTL was better than RWAC, although I enjoyed RWAC greatly. I honestly though East of Eden and Giant were better James Dean films, but everyone always hypes up RWAT.

Clouzot (at Cannes 1953, it was the Grand Prix as the Palme D'Or was not yet established)
