When I put the disc in my HTPC, the volume label (the name shown for that drive in windows explorer) on the disc says "EL_NORTE". I was pretty worried for a minute that the disc was the wrong one but in fact the movie on it is The 400 Blows. The graphics on the disc are correct as well - it's just the disc volume label.

Just finished watching all of The 400 Blows. It is a very good movie and looks very good on Blu-ray.

just finished The Man Who Fell To Earth...

so so movie, it was just a movie to show off Bowie popularity/persona back then IMO ... the PQ is stunning at times but also disappointing at moments (I know it's not a recent movie but still...) loved Candy Clark in this...

That Benjamin Button case looks pretty cool. I'm hoping it's common to Canada and the US. I'm putting in my pre-order for it today.

I just got The Last Metro today and luckily it doesn't have the same volume label issue as The 400 Blows. This one has the proper Blu-ray label of "LAST_METRO". Of course the issue on The 400 Blows really doesn't hurt anything - it is just confusing for people who use HTPC's or any other players that may show the disc name on the screen.

Default La Strada

Just wondering if there's any info on (or conjecture regarding) "La Strada" being relesed on blu ray? If it was released with the *full* English soundtrack (as was the laderdisc release but not the DVD release) I'd be in seventh heaven.

So I guess i'm confused.

Did anyone get an answer from Criterion yet on Button? Is there 1 version which has both Paramount and Criterion the labelling, is there only a Paramount version with a separate Criterion one to follow, or is the whole Criterion angle on this movie BS and it's a normal Paramount release?

Ok thanks - that makes me feel better.

So the image showing on amazon is the one for the single disc standard DVD which has no mention of Criterion then? And the pics posted a few up in this thread is the image for the 2 criterion versions I'd say?

I wonder if the menus and special features are setup like all the other Criterion Blu-rays or it is just like any other Paramount Blu-ray? I guess nobody knows yet.

This is good news then as columbia house has the Blu-ray for a decent price up here at least so it should be exactly the same as the US version. I can get it for under $20.

the pics on amazon are likely placeholder pics, probably not indicative of the final cover art. i'd guess the single disc will likely be similar to that artwork minus the whole 2 DISC etc text that takes up 50% of the cover.

Amazon shipped my copy of "The 400 Blows" yesterday..... unfortunately they shipped "Chungking Express" on March 10th, and it's still not here..... so I don't expect the usual speedy service I get from them

ABOUT CRITERION
OUR MISSION

Since 1984, the Criterion Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, has been dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. Over the years, as we moved from laserdisc to DVD, Blu-ray disc, and online streaming, we’ve seen a lot of things change, but one thing has remained constant: our commitment to publishing the defining moments of cinema for a wider and wider audience. The foundation of the collection is the work of such masters of cinema as Renoir, Godard, Kurosawa, Cocteau, Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Hitchcock, Fuller, Lean, Kubrick, Lang, Sturges, Dreyer, Eisenstein, Ozu, Sirk, Buñuel, Powell and Pressburger. Each film is presented uncut, in its original aspect ratio, as its maker intended it to be seen. Every time we start work on a film, we track down the best available film elements in the world, use state-of-the-art telecine equipment and a select few colorists capable of meeting our rigorous standards, then take time during the film-to-video digital transfer to create the most pristine possible image and sound. Whenever possible, we work with directors and cinematographers to ensure that the look of our releases does justice to their intentions. Our supplements enable viewers to appreciate Criterion films in context, through audio commentaries by filmmakers and scholars, restored director’s cuts, deleted scenes, documentaries, shooting scripts, early shorts, and storyboards. To date, more than 150 filmmakers have made our library of Director Approved DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and laserdiscs the most significant archive of contemporary filmmaking available to the home viewer.

Unfortunately, UPS botched this delivery again from Amazon, so I won't be receiving my discs 'til tomorrow. The same thing happened with my "El Norte" disc where the delivery had to be rescheduled for some reason.

By the way, did anyone else notice that the "Ran" blu-ray isn't up on Criterion's site anymore in the Coming Soon section?
