Finally got the first out of the three orders I placed during the B&N sale. Still waiting for the rest, but I can pace myself and watch one or two a night until the others come.

Only blind buy was Antichrist, but I kinda know what I'm getting into. The second and third orders are the ones with a bunch of movies I haven't seen.

Yea (or is it Yeah), I know...clever. I always have to think is it active or passive. That, and if I could just pronounce hegemony without thinking about it.

By the way, to stay on-topic...loved Paths of Glory. Some of the exterior scenes reminded me of the depth of Welles' shots. Criterion needs to get ahold of Chimes at Midnight.

THE KILLING is $36.69 shipped on Planet Axel. That's a hefty tag for maybe getting the release early.

I'll stick with Amazon.

Heh, I'm thinking about cancelling my $24ish Amazon preorder because it's too much.

I've never ordered from Planet Axel before, so this will be a good learning experience, I suppose.

Heh-JEM-uh-nee, but I had to think about it.

+1 to what you said about both Paths of Glory and Chimes at Midnight. The latter would look excellent in hi-def. In the former, I liked many of Kubrick's exterior shots (e.g., the tracking shots during the charge and the heads-on shots of the officers walking through the trenches). But I also really liked the framing of the shots during the tribunal with the French flag in the background.

I would also hope to watch Persona in hi-def sooner rather than later.

Chimes could really really really use an overhaul on its audio. I recall the Region 1 DVD's audio being completely unacceptable. I had no idea what they were saying.

Not a Criterion Title, but I highly recommend Murnau's Sunrise. The UK disc is region free.

Review of Secret Sunshine is up (rather early).

I didn't really have much expectations for this title, but after reading the review the film looks very interesting; very philisophical and emotional. Although the disc appears to be severly lacking in the supplements department, a recent trend with Criterion releases. Hopefully they get their supplements mojo back, because in my opinion they are starting to lose a bit of respect in that department!

I have it in my wishlist for either the next B&N or Amazon sale. My latest B&N Haul and recent AMAZON UK Import binge has me holding back for the rest of the month. I'm a fan of Korea cinema lately, and do have A BIETTERSWEET LIFE on order with YES.ASIA.

Well my copy of Naked showed up today! Still waiting on Repulsion, Zazie, Kurosawa two-pack, Blow Out, and High & Low.

eBates also sent me the 10 dollar coupon for B&N I was entitled to for joining them. They could have sent it to me a few days ago. Oh well, I'll still use it to get one Criterion title from my wishlist. I'm thinking Hausu because I loved its insanity. With the 10 dollar coupon, it's still cheaper than Amazon.

Edit: I ordered Hausu. It came to 27.43 once I applied the giftcard, so it was only about 4 bucks more than if I had ordered it last week without a ten dollar coupon. Amazon wants 26.49 for it, despite what Blu-Ray.com says on the Hausu page. With shipping and the import fee, it would have been more than 27 bucks. I know, I know, it's technically 37 bucks, but since I didn't really pay for the giftcard, I'm not counting that 10 bucks towards the purchase price of Hausu. I still wish I had the card last Friday though.

I now have about 22 Criterions left on my wishlist. 18 of them still need to be watched before I decide if I'm going to buy them at some point in time.

Do a search on this thread for November and December; it's been asked and answered many times already.

Off the top of my head, I seem to recall Wild Strawberries, Three Colors trilogy, and some silent film or other... maybe City Lights.

Agreed! And I'm a disciple of immediate gratification.

I can wait...

I CAN'T. I'm willing to pay a little extra to get some Kubrick in early, especially a movie as badass as The Killing.

Do you think CC will package the DAZED AND CONFUSED blu-ray similarly to the DVD release? I'm debating whether or not I should sell my DVD copy. It's damn near my favorite packaging for any CC release. I don't want to lose it if they're going to go the same route as Fear and Loathing.

D&C is an awseome package, there were TWO D&C posters in the box when I bought it, I'm gonna frame one of them!

I see you have a like for Down By Law, no love for Stranger Than Paradise? (both are great films IMO):
