I'd probably keep it until you know for sure. I love some of the Criterion DVD packaging, like The Furies. It comes with the original novel. I did not like the film enough to keep it though, I traded it for The Seventh Seal, which I have to return for a new copy. It stopped and went back to the menu screen before the film ended, and when I tried to get back to the movie, it messed up again.

Only blind buy was Antichrist, but I kinda know what I'm getting into. The second and third orders are the ones with a bunch of movies I haven't seen.
You should return those for less blurry copies

Still... isn't the point to show off the movies you get in the mail/your latest crazy shopping haul? I'm not half as jealous of anyone's camera phone as I am of most people in this thread's Criterion collection.

People in here are not only snobs about their films, but their cameras as well.

Can't say I'm not, but I'm pretending to be cool about it since my camera sucks.

Yes it does. I have the exact same one. And I have a crappy digital camera too.

got Walkabout for $19 at a local Borders. The only other Criterion blus they had were Bottle Rocket and Stagecoach. Really excited to see Walkabout again, since I saw it last time in SD with the wrong aspect ratio on IFC. The Killing in a little over a week!

I watched Bigger Than Like last night. What a great film! Good acting and editing. The film does a great job of building suspense. I also really liked the colour tone and overall look of the film.

Next up for me are Pale Flower, Fat Girl and Army of Shadows. Hopefully get all those done in the next two weeks, if I have time.

I don't think I've seen anyone post this before, but I just took a gander at Criterion's "contact us" section and thought this was pretty funny:

To report a technical problem with your DVD or Blu-ray disc; for television, public performance, and nontheatrical sales;
for queries, threats, or bribes related to our future release schedule;
for praise and/or criticism of our releases or the state of the film world in general;
to report that a DVD booklet has been mauled by a dog or baby;
for clarification of the information on our FAQ page;
to whinge about region encoding;
or for any and all Criterion-related anecdotes or curiosities, please e-mail Jon Mulvaney at mulvaney@criterion.com (he lives for this stuff!).

Aaaaaaaand, that's awesome.

My thoughts on "latest haul" posts, wish lists, etc....and this isn't a criticism, just my observation. Give some feedback/thoughts/ideas/etc. on the films you just bought or want, I mean, this is a discussion thread. This opens doors for films many of us have never seen. Heck, you don't need to be a film expert to give your insight into a film. I'm surely not an expert, that's why I come here to learn. I can, however, be reached for my expert opinon over in the PA German Folklore thread. Macht's gut.

Finally got my B&N package.

Watched the Toshiro Mifune interview from High and Low blu. Really insightful piece about him and his life. It's short but you get a good sense of the man that I am sure many film enthusiast respect.

I just finished watching High and Low. What a great film, I really enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to watch the supplements tomorrow.

It might be a spoiler for those who haven't seen the movie yet but:
You probably won't believe me, but this morning I planned my trip to Japan for this year and...
[Show spoiler]..one of the destinations I've planned to visit is the Island of Enoshima, using the Enoden Line going to Kamakura, both shown in High and Low. I've probably won't find the exact villa above the bay, but I'm definitely going to look out for it

One question for the pink smoke. Was it pink in the original showing or is it some kind of special restoration done by Criterion?

Just tried to watch Amarcord, but I ended up turning it off after 40 minutes, disgusted. I don't think I've ever before watched such a crass, immature, and repulsive film. The fart gags and pelvic thrusts held no comedic value at all for me. I am shocked that this movie (or any of the three other Fellini films that I've seen) is appraised so highly.

By now I'm used to getting lambasted for my distaste with Fellini so you can join the parade if you like, but I despised La Strada, didn't much care for Nights of Cabiria, and found 8 1/2 lukewarm but not really something I'd care to revisit/buy. I will probably rewatch 8 1/2 again at some point and give it another chance, but I don't think I will care to watch any other Fellini film again; he is by now my least favorite director.

Those three, I think you can chalk up to my personal preference, but I'm more interested to see if anyone else finds Amarcord to be as universally repulsive as I.

yes it was like that in the original showing. watch the extras as soon as you can, they are very informative and interesting.
