After receiving The Killing 5 days early from Deep Discount, I watched it and the Killer's Kiss last night. I thoroughly enjoyed The Killing (I'll give it 9/10) and was somewhat entertained by The Killer's Kiss (7/10).

As rkish pointed out, I was able to toggle the subtitles and adjust other audio/video options of which I was never aware while watching Army of Shadows just now. I really crave some more Melville on blu... His cinematography was made for high def.
where did u get it for meager $23 lol

I had no problems playing it on my PS3 so didn't return it, but because it's literally just this one movie out of hundreds obviously something isn't quite right. I wonder if it's just isolated to Panasonic's or other standalone have problem playing it? It could be a matter of a firmware update, but even if it is firmware it's odd that literally this one title is incompatible when hundreds of others are fine...
Yep, that's what my Casino did. But eventually the black screen turns into a menu. Try it again and just try being patient with it. Once the actual Blu-Ray menu popped up, I had no problems with playback.

It was an Amazon Warehouse deal (open box but I swear it arrived brand new) for $60, and I had $37 worth of Amazon Gift Cards between a DVD trade-in and my Chase Amazon Rewards credit card.

I really wish Criterion would do the 1945 film noir DETOUR. I'm dying to see this film. All the dvds out there for it are of horrible quality.

Yeah, but I literally waited like 10 minutes. It was definitely more than 6. I tried rebooting my player several times as well. The first few times I was quick to reset it or push buttons to try to bring up the menu, then in my final effort I let it go for a VERY, VERY long time. Never got it to a menu. It was making all kinds of weird sounds in my player too (like it was working exceptionally hard at reading/searching the disc). So after my final effort I just popped it in my PS3 and will never again put that title in the Panny player...

Also that player you got you paid $60 for not $23. Using gift cards is same as cash, you could have applies those cards to anything else or just kept them in your account. Still a good deal though.

Team up with the DVDBeaver guy and put out your own blu.

And the Image disc isn't that bad, I've seen worse.

My Panny-45 occasionally makes a lot of noise playing discs... It did it during The Red Shoes and again toward the end of Quantum of Solace. It gets pretty hot on the right side of the unit during nornal playback, too; I propped it up in top of two blocks of wood to promote air flow underneath/aroun the unit, and it hasn't made any noise since.

But $23 on my credit card statement is only $23 spent my friend.
Besides the Chase Amazon credit card is free money (3% cash back on AMZ purchases).

I wonder if A Night at the Opera (Wood, 1935) is even a remote possibility. Sam Wood isn't on the list of directors NOT part of the MGM deal (the film isn't listed as off limits either...).

Just finished watching The Killing, and I have to say that this is definitely one of my favorite releases. A great set of films and a nice presentation.

Is there anyone else out there who's most anticipated release is Secret Sunshine. The movie is beyond incredible and I can't wait to own it.

I'm looking forward to it very much, but I've never seen it. Does that count?

That's a "classic" MGM film (not MGM/UA or 80's/90s MGM), now owned by Time Warner. I wouldn't place a bet on Criterion getting it. Although they did have it a long time ago in laserdisc land... but these days? Nah.

Watched Paths of Glory (which I'd never had seen until last night) in anticipation to receiving my copy of the Killing...Excellent film. COuldn't get over how much of Michael Douglas I seen in Kirk Douglas. Not sure why it took my so long to see this film.

Can't wait till next week when I'll receive the killing though.

I don't make a habit of blind buying, but everything I've read about Secret Sunshine inspired me to blind preorder it when it was in my Amazon Gold Box a couple weeks ago. I can't wait to see it!!!

Default Criterion Week...

This Week I have watched 3 Criterion-released films: Leon Morin, Priest (via Netflix DVD), which I have added it to my wish list...Kuroneko (via Hulu streaming) which I thoroughly enjoyed and will be picking up in October or November...and Jalshaghar (via an atrocious transfer on Netflix DVD), which I enjoyed musically, but not really so much as a film. Maybe I need to watch the BD. Too bad Netflix doesn't get BDs right away, if ever!

Not related to Criterion, but today is Hitchcock's 112th birthday.
May he and his films be remembered for many years to come.

Will the Criterion Collection release of Dazed and Confused have the same video transfer as the Universal release that came out this week? Just curious because of the good prices on the Universal release this week, but I will wait for Criterion if the video transfer is superior.

I would wait for the Criterion Collection release of Dazed and Confused because of the additional extra features.

I wish they released some more Truffaut. The Bride Wore Black would be a nice addition to the collection. And add to that Persona and Children of Paradise, and you have a perfect release list.
