rkish...Chishu Ryu was Ozu's favorite male actor, not Kurosawa's.

Knowing Amazon, the "lighting deal" will be $23.99 anyway (vs. 24.99 which was the pre-order price IIRC). They calculate their "amazing" discounts off the MSRP, not on what their own previous price was. So if I were you I wouldn't worry to much about it. I'd be surprised if it goes under $20, and even that's not enough to worry about.

Amazon does have some amazing deals at times, especially during the holidays. But their run off the mill lighting deals I've learned to not have expectations for anymore - though I can't specifically recall any Criterion deals to compare. Anyone have an idea of how low they've gone on Criterion lighting sales in the past?

Where does it say THE KILLING is going be a lightning deal?

It says they're doing the deals because of a new Kubrick release but they don't say the latest is going to be a deal. They'll probably do Paths of Glory though...

I'm very excited for Rushmore. Wes Anderson is a sick filmmaker, I hope Criterion gets his 3 other films they haven't released on blu.

The Three Colors trilogy will be very nice as well.

I am excited to see what else they will announce!

I will miss it, like usual as I will be leaving work very soon and won't be back on PC until 6 pm or so.

I do hope City Lights is on the list

Not necessarily.

Amazon's pre-order price guarantee states: "If the Amazon.com price decreases between the time you place your order and the end of the day of the release date, you'll receive the lowest price."

So technically, if it drops below $20, everyone who pre-ordered will get the difference put back on their cards.

I was just replying to the guy's quote. I'm not saying it one way or the other. Though the quote from Amazon does imply to me that The Killing will be part of the lighting deal (IMO), otherwise why would the mention the release was just in time for the lightning deal? I was really just replying about the potential price (which IMO would probably be $19.99-ish).

It could be because of what you say, but it would be a bit strange to specifically mention The Killing and then not have it as one of the deals. It's not like we are dealing with titles that need to be watched in advance of the Killing (i.e. here is a lighning deal on harry potters 1-6, just in time for harry potter 7).

Oh. I didn't even realize Killing comes out tomorrow (thought it came out last week or 2 weeks ago).

In that case it's probably not part of the deal. I've never heard of them doing a lightning deal right on the release date.

I know that...I think you misread my post...

"Takashi Shimura is kind of like Kurosawa's Chishu Ryu...he dates way back with Kurosawa and would typically show up in most of his films."

Meaning...that Shimura filled a similar slot with Kurosawa as Ryu did with Ozu. Maybe I'm missing a comma somewhere...

Chishu Ryu is a personal favorite of mine. Just as Mifune was probably a better actor than Shimura, Setsuko Hara was a better actor than Ryu. But both Ryu and Shimura were beloved by their directors and showed up in most of their films. They are "regulars" and are beloved by me as well!

I've always thought so, and not just on the basis of Rushmore.

I really don't care about this. I'm not a huge Anderson fan. Haven't even seen Rushmore since it was in theatres 15 or whatever years ago. Don't get me wrong I'd like to see Rushmore and Tenenbaums get their blu-rays - never said otherwise. What I really don't particularly care about is if Criterion does them, if someone else does them, if they come in November, or if they come months/years later.

There's a long laundry list of Criterion's that I'd like to see upgraded from DVD to blu, and it's interesting to hear any time Criterion gets rights to new titles. However I really don't give a shit about the order in which they are done, generally speaking Criterion goes for a bit of variety in what they are bringing to the table. For me it's more a binary thing, either i'm interested or i'm not. But even if it's a title I'm not personally interested it, you won't find me acting like a whiny little ***** complaining about it... I'm just bewildered there are people stupid enough to ***** and compain about what is probably one of the more obvious back-catalogue titles to release (not for it's place in film history, but out of $$$ concerns and sales rankings).

I didn't even realize The Killing didn't come out until tomorrow.... I've had it for more than a week.

I watched it, and A Killer's Kiss last night. Highly recommend it, but I haven't had the time to dig into any other supplementals.

That's a lot of complaining from someone who doesn't complain.

Just out of curiosity and because I've never seen it, why do I always see so many posts of people (especially on Facebook) wanting Criterion to release The Game?
