But with F&A, it was originally a TV series that was then cut down for international cinemas. The theatrical version should be treated as the chaff, not the wheat.
Yeah, I edited my original post. My bad. It could be that they put most of e TV version on one disc and the rest on another one along with the documentary or something. I really, really hope the TV version gets treated right.

Very pleased about 12 Angry Men, but disappointed at the lack of Chaplin. After Modern Times and The Great Dictator, I figured May and November would be the yearly release months for his back catalog. Guess not.

I wouldn't say I prefer that version but it's definitely excellent. I'd snap that one up in a second too.

  3. Fanny and Alexander — The Theatrical Version
  4. Fanny and Alexander — The Television Version
  5. The Making of Fanny and Alexander
  6. Three Colors: Blue
  7. Three Colors: White
  8. Three Colors: Red
  9. 12 Angry Men

NINE!
I would have given you the Three Colors, but you stretched for too much with Fanny Alaxander as 2 separate films. By that comparison I guess they released 10 titles last November. Ten!

Besides, I wasn't complaining about what they were releasing. My post came before Rushmore was updated, which was basically already confirmed. So I figured they might have had another one up their sleeves, i.e. a Chaplin, in addition to Rushmore which I was not yet counting.

Every mainline release announced today looks like blu-ray upgrades to me. I'm trying to remember when the last time (if there ever was) when Criterion didn't announce something new to the U.S. market.

Well you could argue that 12 Angry Men is new to the collection.

Isn't 12 Angry Men a totally new release? Just wondering because of the spine number, seems really high to me.

It is for Criterion. It appears that Three Colours is also new to the collection.

DVD is gradually becoming irrelevant.

Although it's place in the market undoubtedly keeps optical media prices down.

Definitely in for Fanny and Alexander and 12 Angry Men! havnt seen the others so im not sure yet......

I find it funny how they keep releasing every other Bergman film except the one that was hinted at in the new year newsletter in Wild Strawberries
