Somebody on the Facebook page said that it's going to be a "Director's Cut" of Rushmore?

I really dislike 12 Angry Men, but I am happy for the Criterion Collection fans who are receiving this treat. A worthy addition to the CC indeed.

From Criterion.com:

"New high-definition digital transfer of the director’s cut supervised by director Wes Anderson"

When they first announced it they had a cover posted. Same as the old one, but with the blu sticker, of course.

Looks like they posted a bigger image of it on this site :-)

It's weird, the price blurb section of the page says three discs but the product description says it's a five disc box set.

No Chaplin Oh well! C'est la vie!

Sabu DVD set will be a purchase for me for sure, too bad it's not a Blu-ray release but I will gladly take an Eclipse set. My other purchase, very likely Fanny & Alexandre

Dislike or just don't like?

I could understand somebody shrugging and wondering what all the fuss was about but active 'gawd, that sucked' dislike seems strange.

Dislike.

But I've learned my lesson and do not care to go into detail in this thread.

I can also separate my opinion of the film from the film itself and from others' opinions of the film.

Good lord. That was a lot of pages to read since I logged off last night. I like it when someone loses an argument and then changes their avatar. It's just like Doctor Who!

I'm very happy about Fanny & Alexander. Wasn't expecting that. November looks like a month of inevitabilities, but happy ones for me. Huzzah!

Thought that too at first but it's the DVD that's five discs; the blu is a 3 disc box set. Makes sense really. Awesome. Can't wait.

Just got the killing. About to watch. Just gotten dark here in B-Land

Rushmore cover is on the CC page. I like that it's the same as the DVD.

YAHOOOO! Fanny and Alexander! One of the best titles in their catalogue. As far as I'm concerned, this month has the best line-up in the blu ray department since they started with the format. The only one I haven't watched so I can't have an opinion is Rushmore. As for the rest, great titles!

I am still keeping my fingers crossed that they'll release Les Parapluies de Cherbourg and Children of Paradise in the months to come.

The only thing that bugs me is that MGM's 12 Angry Men extras were not included.

And I couldn't help remembering Monsters Inc. when I saw the cover for 12 Angry Men:

Is it really that common for films released on blu-ray to have NEVER received a DVD release? Even with Criterion it seems to be an exception. At most you could only expect 1 or 2, but looking back to previous months I'm not sure that even 1 per month is consistently the norm for Criterion.

I'm sure there are hundreds of worthy films that never received any DVD's in North America, but in many cases there is probably a reason for that (i.e. the prints were lost/damaged over the years, or the film was simply not marketable enough to even justify even a modest a print run on DVD). Plus clearly the vast majority of essentials and classics WERE released on DVD, and there's still thousands that need to be brought to blu-ray. It's nice when a new print of an old film is discovered, and if brought to blu-ray then great. But considering most of us don't have the entire Criterion Collection spine #'s 1-591 on DVD, even just getting "upgrades" of the current catalogue is basically the same thing as a new release.

I hope they have the same "easter egg" for the box of Fanny and Alexander as they did on (in) the DVD box.

Isn't that him just below the title?
