Surprised no one posted yet, but Charade is "50% off," with it being 19.99, much like the B&N sale.

Can anyone recommend a book about film history that details both it's history as an art form but also the development of the technical side?? Perhaps I'll need two books for that though.

Post that in the deals forum, people are pissing and moaning over there at price it's on sale for, as well as the choices Amazon made for their lightning deals. Some people are buying it, 8% of the copied have been sold so far.

Edit: Planet Axel has it for 31.50, so this is as cheap as it gets until the next B&N sale.

My apologies for failing to comprehend your sarcasm.

Regardless of the price, Charade is an awesome film, and is one of my top picks from Criterion's catalogue.

CC has been noticeably absent the past two days.

Curious to hear his thoughts on November's slate.

I prefer my humor dry, witty and subtle. Much like a fine Woody Allen film

Normally I do too.

I must admit, I had never heard of Planet Axel until you posted that comment.

I am also curious as to where CC is and why we're not getting comments on the November slate.

My copy of The Killing has shipped! Alas, it's still through DHL, which means I'm paying an extra 2 dollars for nothing. Oh well, at least it's out on BD, along with Killer's Kiss. I'm looking forward to it. I didn't realise that standard shipping to Canada had been suspended when I pre-ordered it during the postal strike. I was hoping that it might arrive this weekend, as a birthday surprise, since my birthday is Thursday.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but DVDBeaver has their review of Secret Sunshine up. Sounds like a great release!

I've only dealt with DHL when I ordered from Amazon Canada. DHL couldn't deliver the first try (I live in an apt.). Strangely, UPS and Fedex never fail to deliver.

November is going to be fantastic! The Three Colors Trilogy, Rushmore, 12 Angry Man and The Rules of the Game are all day 1 purchases for me.

I'm the opposite. DHL usually hand Amazon parcels over to Canada Post once they cross the border, but they are freaking slow. My last Amazon order took an extra week to arrive. They're still quicker than B&N though. I also live in an apt., I just ship everything to my parents' place, and pick it up on the weekends, or they run it into me when they come to the city for errands.

Slight change of subject, is Kagemusha worth getting? I've been getting into Kurosawa's films lately, and I've really enjoyed the ones I've watched so far, but they all date from the 1950-1963 period. However, I've heard various people say that later, colour Kurosawa wasn't as fun or enjoyable as these earlier B&W films.

It's not as fun as some of his other films. Particularly the Yojimbo films. But then again it's not a comedy or adventure film. I've always been a big fan of it, but haven't got the blu yet.
If you're a Kurosawa fan, you're probably safe to blind-buy it. However, consider that it is a very long film. I'd recommend trying to see it first before buying.

Ahhh, I wasn't aware how missed I could be in an internet forum. Don't worry, I'm still here as the ever-watchful eye.
I've been over here in this group ->

I'm more of a fact-checker than an opinion-giver, usually, so that's why I haven't been chiming in of late. I'm useless in all these heated debates about this director and that director so I try to stay out of it as much as I can.

Anyway, I'm a huge Bergman fan, so I'm excited for Fanny & Alexander even though I already own the DVD set. I've seen 33 of the man's directed films and two that he wrote the screenplay for, and I still have a few others to watch that I own. I like Kieślowski's output and the trilogy, so I'll be grabbing that. I own the Rushmore DVD so.... yeah. And, honestly, I've never gotten around to seeing either The Rules Of The Game or 12 Angry Men, so I'll be interested to give them a whirl. I'm a big Eclipse-loving wh*re so I'll pick up the Sabu set during a future sale, hopefully.

That's as much information I can divulge right now. Please continue on with your days now.

I was ecstatic about the titles announced until I came across the title Rushmore. That's it I'm never buying a Criterion title again. I hate Wes Anderson !! **Storms around forum throwing temper tantrum**

Seriously I want every title they announced. Problem is I wanted every title they announced last month... and the month before etc..
Criterion should just start their own Bluray Club where you pay them every year and get all their titles at a reduced price.
