Last Temptation of Christ is on Criterion DVD, so perhaps a blu-ray upgrade is in the works? (especially considering it is being removed from Netflix instant watch)

It was extremely cool.
I was alive in 1968 but too young to remember Apollo 11. However, growing up as a kid in the 70's, one of my fondest memories is the toys that came out related to the Apollo program. Major Matt Mason!!

And his Space Station and Moon Walker, later they added other astronauts, and finally went into sci-fi territory with space monsters. All good quality toys, not nearly as big as the old GI Joes, but good sized figures made of hard rubber that had gripper hands to hold tools, and zero gravity boots that locked into the space station floor. That station was no crap toy, it was almost as tall as me!

For All Mankind captures the story of a great human event as cinematic poetry, and for me brings alive memories of some of the coolest toys ever made.

Default Orpheus

I haven't seen much talk here about the new release of Orpheus.
Is anyone planning on getting it?
I'm pretty sure I saw it or Blood of a Poet many years ago, but I can't remember which.
Is it best to see the trilogy in order or are they independent films?
Is there any indication that the other two films will be upgraded?

Tim Carey is the best. The article over at Criterion.com states that his picture was included in the photo shoot for the Sgt. Pepper's album cover. I could watch his scenes from The Killing all day.

[Show spoiler]"Red Lightning. Red Lightning in the 7th. Ya, I got a little bet down on him"

My email said mine was ready to ship... in late Oct! I guess because I also ordered Island of Lost Souls (and I guess I checked the "ship all together" box).
Sokay. Got plenty to watch until then...

Oh, well.
Why not pick up a cheap region free player?

I've never really understood why some film enthusiasts limit themselves to releases from one region. My region free BD player cost me about what I'd pay for 3 Criterion BDs.

This baffles me as well. Wether you're limited to region A or B, you miss out on a lot of great films.

Like Zen says...buy 'the majority of the movies' bar 3 or 4 and you'll have paid for the MR BD player...

Same here, they're not extremely expensive, I think I bought mine for around Ł100. To be fair to Criterion I'm pretty sure the rights they own to films restricts them to North American releases

Watched Pale Flower last night for the first time. Wow! What a great film! For sure it's one of my favorite Criterions so far. A little gem in the Collection, definitely. A really nice disc by Criterion as well. Very impressed with it.

Army of Shadows tonight. That is the last one for me from the B&N sale that has arrived, still waiting for Kiss Me Deadly and The Double Life of Veronique to show up. Excited about these as well.

The Three Colors trilogy and Rushmore are looking very nice in November.

It's Warner so you can forget about it.

With Disney licensing Touchstone stuff maybe they could get The Color of Money or Kundun since they never even got good DVD releases. I'd settle for bare-bones Mill Creek releases though.

I recall the films being similar in feeling, but otherwise independent. I tend to watch everything in order as it appears on a disc or in a box set, but that's just me. I also tend to skip commentaries most of the time, again just me so...

The other two are Studio Canal, so not likely. This seems to be Criterion's way of getting at least the one title back in print, and also their concurrence that the other two won't be re-appearing any time soon.

I'd recommend checking out the others if Orpheus appeals.

Pale Flower is my favorite blind buy so far this year. (along with The Music Room)

Only 2 B&N Criterions left for me to receive: High and Low and Hausu. Technically 4 from Amazon, The Killing/Killer's Kiss, The Seventh Seal, and If... Blow Out was awesome despite the cheesy background music. Repulsion was also excellent.

Back in the day, my first DVD player (and every one after it) was a region-free player, and I regularly ordered DVDs from the UK, Oz, and Japan. Unfortunately, money's tight these days, and my BD buying is a lot more limited. Since there are more than enough worthy films coming out on BD here in the States, I haven't bothered to look into getting a region-free player. I did check the usual suspects for a remote hack for my model player (Sony S550), but couldn't find one.

The thing that annoys me about region coding is that I can't really take region B discs anywhere else. I really wish they had done away with region coding for Blu-ray. There wouldn't be a need for someone to ask if a title is region free in almost every thread.

A region-free player is pretty much essential for me because I enjoy so many arthouse and foreign movies. In region A, we get most of the big Hollywood releases, but many of the smaller films still only get released on DVD.

I've been looking at some pretty impressive "fake" Criterion covers, makes me wish Criterion could actually get licenses to some of them.
