Oui, oui, et oui.

That's one for each color/film in the set.

Especially if you enjoyed Double Life. And if this falls during the November B&N sale, that's even better.

I blind bought The Double Life of Veronique and LOVED it. I'm blind buying the Three Color Trilogy as well.

I recently checked out from my local library the Three Color trilogy on DVD. I enjoyed them all. I will be buying the bluray box set this November.

Default An open plea....

To cut a long story short, I missed out on the 50% off flash-sale.
Basically Criterion couldn't process my non-US credit card (something to so with AVS security and non-US banks). I contacted them and explained and, hats off to them, they've given me a one-off week long chance to order at 50% off.
So....could anyone order a couple of titles for me and forward to me when they arrive? (they won't ship direct to me).
I'll fix everything up through Paypal

MGM won't ever be releasing stuff like 1,2,3 or Avanti! so it's a real shame that it looks like Criterion didn't make a play for the MGM/UA Wilder films.
oh well.
Oh well for this and also I'm getting the impression that lots of titles will never make it to blu-ray (at least in the US), as they are getting dumped more and more into MOD dvd programs by the various companies.

I'm going to be happy when anything (that I want ) makes it to blu-ray at this point, although I wish some of those other companies would give them some respect instead of releasing whatever they have lying around. Oh wait, didn't Criterion just release a window-boxed blu-ray? Ok, I wish all companies would give their titles the respect they deserve instead of releasing whatever they have lying around.

Sale runs from 1st thru the 21st, so no on the latter. Also seems like many of their stores won't be getting October or November releases, if rumor/word posted at criterionforum.org is any indication of reality, it indicated that a large number of stores will be getting rid of their movies (and music?) sections soon, replacing them somehow or other by nook. (If I am mis-remembering the post over there, or it is incorrect (I hope it is), apologies.)

Sucks, I do prefer having a local option to try and find un-banged up copies of things when the online options aren't doing a very good job of it, but it looks like I won't have any left before very long.

Maybe they'll still have movies in their online store

I hope that's not true. I just found out about the 50% off Criterion sale this past time, I'm really looking forward to it in November and beyond.

Then again looking at the DVD/blu-ray sections at the Barnes and Noble stores I go to, clearly it is not a high traffic area for them. Even with the 50% sale, so many of the Criterion DVD's look like they had been sitting there for several years. So strategically speaking its probably a loser for most of their stores to carry that inventory. As long as they still have an online sale then I guess it's better than nothing.

Hey...anyone with any knowledge about the transfer of "If...." used by Criterion for the blu-ray. I read a review of the old Criterion DVD of "If...." and people claimed that the film was cut up from it's original version. Anyone know if the BD is the same "cut up" version as the DVD or did they get a more complete transfer for the BD?

Not Criterion-related (my apologies), but I saw Lars von Trier's Melancholia this evening, and I'm sure a number of posters in this thread will look forward to seeing this movie. It is beautifully shot, enigmatic, challenging, and head-scratching. Exactly as the director wanted, I'm sure, and probably as his supporters prefer.

Since the release of Carlos is impending, here's (in my opinion) the defining song from the film:
Loved how they interspersed it with historical images during the final credit sequence.

I don't mean to be obnoxious. But is there any valid speculation on next weeks release announcement?

Default Pickpocket ever going to BD?

Has anyone heard any speculation as to whether CC will be doing a bluray of "Pickpocket" by Robert Bresson? the DVD looks good, but I would really love a high def transfer.

I just finished watching the last bits of the Vigo set. All I can say is, that between the spectacular transfers, excellent commentaries, and superior supplements...if it doesn't get blu-ray of the year, then I'll be very disappointed.

Rich, I cannot argue against that assessment. I have seen L’atalante before the set came out and when you put that film into the perspective that was that time period it just makes you scratch your head. I had not seen the other 3 shorts that are on the disc and they are a very good precursor to his style. When I finished the set, I kept thinking to my self, when will his next 'forgotten' film be found in someone's closet....

Agreed John! What a waste to have died so young...what he might have done with another 10+ years of life to work on other films. He reminds me of another French director named Jean that who was close enough in the timeline to have been a contemporary...Jean Epstein.
