Even though it is Owned by Universal, I would love to see The Trouble with Harry restored and on blu.

I would still buy any that Criterion would release Day One.

Looking at how close we are to the 15th, which "predictions" have we made so far ?
I feel the same way about the Soviet Union films. The Cranes Are Flying and Ivan's Childhood are among my most wanted upgrades. In addition, I would add Ballad of a Soldier.

I really would love to see The Ascent upgraded also; however, I doubt it gets an upgrade anytime soon, if ever, since it is part of an Eclipse set.

I guess the real question in regard to that tweet is, which Hitchcock films can Criterion actually get the rights to?
I'd consider "pretty ordinary" rather generous, I viewed my friends copy and I wanted to throw it out of a window! The only thing preventing me from doing so is the fact it wasn't actually mine. It was mentioned in another thread Criterion actually own the rights to 39 steps so hopefully they do it more justice. I'd love to see Strangers on a Train, Rear Window, Vertigo or Dial M receive the Criterion treatment but I doubt it will happen. Apparently Dial M for Murder is being prepared for a 3D release, not overly happy about this unless a 2D version is released too.

It's more than just your everyday grain...as I don't believe grain is supposed to pulsate this strongly. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Thanks!
what are your TV settings? Movie mode with warm settings and all the DNie/DNR off?

When I watched Howards End, I had pulsating grain on my old settings (Dynamic mode, Cool, etc), but then the pulsating grain went away when I put my TV on better settings (Movie mode, warm settings, DNR/Dnie off, etc)

Do you guys view the movie prior to buying it or just straight blind buy? Most of the Criterions I have bought have been blind-buys, only basing the purchase from people's reviews.

With the ones I own so far, I have liked them all except for a few movies like Modern Times and Videodrome. Haven't seen Pale Flower, The Magician and Hausu so no verdict on them yet.

I would say the best blind-buy so far is The Killing. Love that movie!

I hadn't noticed anyone mention this either, but there's also a new "in the criterion closet" video with Robert Downey, SR. http://youtu.be/ZHBVH6ut2k8

I have blind bought all of mine as well. Only one I wasn't the biggest fan of was House. Every other one I've watched has been pretty good to great. I also thought The Killing was excellent.

December has always been a quiet month. Don't expect more than one new spine and one upgrade.

I bought the bluray last year and only recently watched it. On my Panasonic BD-60, the digital noise was very apparent in darker scenes. The final credits looked like a blizzard. There's is something a bit weird with the disc. I find it hard to believe something like this is player-dependent, but I suppose if others are not seeing the problems, it must be. For the most part the disc looks good, but it's some of the darker scenes that look bad.

Yeah...I turned my sharpness setting all the way to minimum and turned the DNR setting (which I didn't even know was on) off and it looked significantly better! Now I need to check out Makioka again just to see it without the noise.

Notorious is my choice (if Criterion owns the rights).

Although a box with all 5 on blu-ray would be a splash, wouldn't it?

Good question. We know The Lady Vanishes, 39 Steps, & Foriegn Correspondent, but beyond that...

On a related note, there will be a prayer vigil tonight imploring the creator to visit Octagon and Darkcritic with shingles, a plague of blood-sucking leaches, etc., etc. Bring Your Own Voodoo Dolls.

Criterion got back to me (it was not Mulvaney :[ ) and said they would give me Secret Sunshine for 50% off and waive the shipping costs. They also said they would ship it out either today or tomorrow...since it is on backorder on their site I wonder if they will be pulling it from the closet

They'll probably send it 2-day via UPS. They're good for that when they need to "make good" on an order.

This is probably a stupid question, but:

Do Criterion orders ship from New York, or does Criterion have some other facility elsewhere?
