Arkadin, I figured they would barely trickle out. I ordered the Park Circus releases almost a year ago. They are very good. I am sure the CC ones will be slightly better, but the waiting is not worth it.

the waiting has now reached absurd levels.
no question.
look I love Criterion as much as anyone, but this whole Chaplin deal disgusts me at this point.
I'm sorry, but it's just become ridiculous at this point imo.

What the hell does a 3 hr cut of Popeye look like? Is this one of those fabled cuts that no one has ever seen?

I am pleased with surprise Lubitsch.

I hate to admit it...but I have to agree. Why get the rights to release his films (which we all know will sell VERY well), if you keep handing them out with an eyedropper. I can't understand that as well.

Looks like Kino's got the right idea with the Keaton releases...

Even thought I have been waiting for some Chaplin love too, I find Criterion's decision to release unexpected upgrades a great move. Don't know, Chaplin is awesome but I honestly wasn't expecting the Suzuki nor the Lubitsch which make me felt more satisfy with the December wave . It is really hard to explain.

That is correct. I really wanted to sell my City Lights for a CC release, but oh well...

Limelight also.
also: just noticed that because of the UK fire all Chaplin bds are OOS on Amazon.uk except for Limelight.
I ordered City Lights from the one seller that has it for retail price and they are the ONLY seller that has it for retail price.
the thing is I have never see the film, and have been waiting patiently for years now for a blu release.
I just can't deal anymore.
simple as that.
can't wait to see the Park Circus release!
sorry Criterion I just can't wait for you anymore.

I really got my hopes up expecting a City Lights release. My favorite Chaplin film. As well as Scorsese's, Woody Allen's and Hefner's I believe.

We need at least a shorts compilation like Kino did with Keaton.

If you didn't know, they released The Immigrant as an extra on the Au Revoir Les Enfants release.

Arkadin, I am pretty confident you have one, but you have a region-free player right? The Park Circus releases are locked. BTW, Limelight is the swan song I was never fond of, so No sale for me.

Why is everyone complaining about Chaplin movies not being released. Have you all thought that maybe the films aren't ready to be released. Maybe they are still working on them. Isn't it better to wait than get something inferior. Plus, it isn't like Chaplin films aren't readily available already. I think everyone needs to calm down and just wait for them to come.

On another note. The Lady Vanishes upgrade. For me, it does not get any better than that. Now just bring on The Passion of Joan of Arc and Picnic at Hanging Rock upgrades and I will perfectly content.

While certainly not his best, seeing Keaton and Chaplin in a movie together even for just a short scene makes it worth it to me.

I didn't forget The 39 Steps. Quite honestly, it just never did it for me. Not a big fan of early Hitchock. The exception being The Lady Vanishes.

Thumbs up

Great news about the Suzuki's. Branded to Kill is a great film...absurd and fun. Tokyo Drifter is "further" out there...twists the mind a bit. Thank you Criterion.
