Made him sound like a snob.

Agreed. But the way you worded it could have been better.

I can say alot of things are a "bigger event" then another Hitchcock release. What if I say I could care less about any of the things listed? It just goes to show when people say "real film people", there will always be bigger snobs. Not trying to bring you down like everyone else when they responded to you, but bro, when you say something like that, I can say I could care less about what you think is "important" just because I think other things are more "important". You get what I'm saying?

sure, I guess. Though a Final Destination saga/The Last Movie month would be ok with me since I usually only like 0-1 film, on average, they announce a month anyways.

I am really disappointed in Criterion for their current case replacement.

I purchased "The last Emporer" from B&N a few month ago and they the paper digipak.

Now to replace that with the newer case it would cost me 10.95 (5.00 for the case and 5.95 shipping)

When Criterion did their case replacements they should have recalled the copies from the retalers and replaced those or grandfathered in their cheaper relacement.

To pay a premuim price for a BD in a bad case is bad enough, but then have to shell out 11.00 more to get the case corrected is even worse. Especially since the original case replacement program was clearly aimed at corecting inferior packaging.

Sorry, but can someone explain why the digipaks are known to be inferior to the replacement cases?

Flimsy construction and since they have an open top dust can get in.

The new Amary cases are far superior in protection of the cover art and not allowing dust to get on the BD.

Criterion offered a very generous replacement program for people to get replacement cases based on the new Amaray ones, but they changed the program in May to where it is more than double the cost. But the older digipaks are still being sold. I purchaed the TLE in July 2011 and evidently the replacement program was changed in May.

Thanks. The ones I have are all the newer cases. I was under the wrong impression that the Digipaks were the more sought after ones, considering they are not as easily found as the newer cases.

They are not easily found, because their use was discontinued. Now that may make them rarer and more valuable to some from that perspectve. But that does not necessarily say that is the best package for protection.

I just started getting into the Criterion titles because of their quality transfers and the titles they have. I have five titles ( and "12 Angry Men" pre-orderd which will be number six) and all but TLE are in the new cases.

I don't really like them either. I'm just glad they even took the time to make replacement cases. I'm just waiting until I make another order with them to add them to my purchase to avoid shipping charges, but it would be nice if they were a bit cheaper.

On another note just got done watching High and Low. What an incredible movie. Probably my favorite Kurosawa film so far. Although I've only seen four so far. Can't wait to get Kagemusha in the mail.

I am glad they took the time also, and prior to May you could get them for 5.00 including shipping whcih was reasonable and that was the case for over a year. Now they are 10.95 including shipping. But like I said above, I would have expected (and did) that a purchase I made in July would have been in the new case and not have to pay 11.00 for a case.

I typically do not order directly from the Criterion site since I have Amazon Prime and Amazon usually has better prices (or equal) than the Criterion site. And Amazon Prime is two day and no minimum order.

Just watched The Killing and Killers Kiss. Both are remarkable films in their own right. Glad I made the purchase.

I have never seen Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter so last night I looked up clips online. There are quite a few on YouTube for both films, along with a bunch of fan's homemade music clips using the theme song to Tokyo Drifter. I have heard that song before, but cannot remember where. Very infectious and cool music.

After watching several clips from both movies and their trailers, I am sold. Cannot wait to add these to my collection. I am becoming a big fan of post-war Japanese cinema thanks to Criterion.
