I received 2 more damaged blus today from them. It's happening on almost every order. Then again, most of mine seem to come in bubble mailers that get crushed during shipping. Usually the only damages I get when shipped in boxes are cut spines from some moron opening the shipments with a razor and slicing through the cases (which has happened 6 or 7 times).

The BD for Le Beau Serge looks wonderful. The 2K transfer (Gaumont) has nice film like qualities and I enjoyed the presentation immensely. I have not had a chance to go through the supplements yet.

For my money, Le Beau Serge is preferable to either The 400 Blows or Breathless. If you would like to watch the film for free you can see it at the following link.

Have to check that out, they griped to me about a month ago. Seems like everybody these days is shipping out messed up stuff or it's getting messed up during shipping. (Edit: Although I will regret typing this because it will mess that up too, amazon UK has been pretty good all in all.)

Wow.

Just found out that I should have 26 of the 70 2011 titles in the end.
And I just had my Region A BR player in July !

I had the issue with them for Blow Out. The case arrived damaged (top of the case cracked). I asked for a replacement, it has been shipped and arrived to me faster than the original order !
Fortunately, it arrived in perfect shape.

I'm not especially picky since I'm in France, so international shipping are long, worrying, and with a chance to have something slightly to really damaged. I've ordered The Magician BR on eBay. Case arrived broken on top, a bit the same. I've been partially refunded, and had to put back the plastic parts together with rubber tape. That's not perfect, but it fits, is not too visible, and doesn't prevent the case to close.

However, I went the full deal and ordered 10 empty cases from Criterion (that's $38 for me...) so, in the future, I won't have to ask for replacement except if the case arrives really broken (like this : http://uppix.net/c/c/b/216468e345386...460c27047.html ).

It is clear that online buying is always hit or miss.
But I agree that you should always be confident in having, in the end, something that would be in the same shape that a product you would buy in-store. I would say that if Amazon are not happy with their returns, they might need to implement some stuff like Planet Axel did, in which, for damaged case, you simply need to upload a picture for them to see. And if it's OK, they then just send you a replacement case, not the whole product.

It might be still as expensive for the shipping fees, but as a whole, you won't send a whole product for just a small crack in a case.

But, having had to deal with B&N customer service, I have to say that I'm quite worried about the 50% november sale. I will probably order some $250 from them.
Having discovered everything you have to do for having anything decent from them when you have the same issues than in my link above, I already know I won't order the 3 colors box from them, but I'm worried I will have to use my 10 cases already just for that, and that I will have to fight during 10 days just to have a decent response. (see here and after : https://forum.blu-ray.com/5177900-post79.html )

Seeing as how everyone is bragging about their purchases, it seems I will start doing the same ...

- Diabolique
- Solaris
- Zazie dans le Metro
- Army of Shadows

... . The only thing I can say in my favor is that I have been purchasing a lot of pre-2011 titles recently !

I am getting sick of the box cuts also. and yeah I get mine in bubble mailers too. It is getting old. I know now I am gonna have to cancel my amazon pre-order in Carlos and just get it at Barnes because I know it won't come to me in good condition.

I buy everything from them, its just easier for me... and until recently, I never received anything damaged. It's just been in the last 4-5 months or so. My Star Wars box was crushed, Breakfast at Tiffany's looked like a ca drove over it, Dumbo was smashed, 3 Women was box cut... that's all in the last week

I just don't like my BLU etc looking like they were bought used. I'm convinced I don't have any faith I will get CARLOS in the condition that I like. So I am canceling that pre-order and having Barnes hold me a copy and I have about 5 stores in my area even with the cost of gas it is worth it to get a good copy.

I will take a chance with Ben Hur from amazon but I won't hesitate to return it for a replacement. I always note the reason why in detail. and always state the item is NEW and should NOT look used.

I only bought 16 this year. I'm eyeing 14/15 titles, but my financial situation will only allow me to buy a handful of them (probably Battle of Algiers, Tokyo Drifter, Branded to Kill, My Life as a Dog, Le Beau Serge, Les Cousins, Kuroneko and Rushmore)

The red are my 'wait for Nov' titles (yeah, yeah, three are in Dec, I know) and I really hope B&N doesn't decide to tighten up on coupon enforcement between now and then.

50% would still be a good deal but 50% with a few coupons in the mix is just so much more fun.

Like a couple of others on this page, I've picked up 16 of Criterion's 2011 releases thusfar. Looking forward to another half-dozen or so.

Yeah, I have about 17. There's just too many I want, I need to start putting them on tiers of importance. I still have a couple back catalogue titles to get.

I do have a fairly healthy collection of about 40 CC titles on BD.

I am wondering if its because you pre-order and pick send them as quickly as possible option? I only ask mostly because I do not pre-order and I usually ask for my things to be send in one shipment. They always send them in cardboard boxes and as such they are always in very good shape.

BTW, I watched Days of Heaven last night. Can't say I enjoyed it as much as I wanted to. As many have commented, the little sister's narration annoyed the hell out out of me. It was a very beautiful film to look at, but I just couldn't get into, the sister's narration really killed it for me. I'm probably not going to buy this one. Although I knocked the Samuel Fuller films off my list, I still want to buy them eventually, I just need to get other titles first.

I sometimes wish Terrence Malick offered the option on his releases to just watch his movies without dialogue or narration, just the natural sound like wind and such. His movies are so much like a poem in motion

You could always mute your TV, and play a recording of nature sounds.

Like I said, it was a beautiful film, but I just couldn't get into it.
