I watched it via Netflix when it was still available to stream, and I found it to be FANTASTIC.

My wife and I planned on watching one part, then another part the next night, and ended up pulling a late-night to get through the whole thing.....

I'm a sucker for that type of Bio though..... I would say if you're into stylized, 'romanticized' recent history...... go for it... Kind of film that has you rooting for the bad guy.

No idea what you even mean to imply here. I'm citing examples of movies that are already in the Criterion Collection, despite the fact that I've never met a single person who considers them "important" films on any level. Hence, my questioning of the logic that Let the Right One In is somehow not "important" enough to be in the Collection...the implication being that Armageddon, The Rock, and Chasing Amy, by virtue of their inclusion, are "important."

Now, if I've simply missed how those sterling works of auteurs Michael Bay and Kevin Smith have deeply enriched the cinematic landscape, by all means, enlighten me.

Oh, the titles you listed have always been important. They help pay the bills for everything else.

Question about Carlos: I am a huge fan of movies where the characters speak the proper language with subtitles, but all commercials have English being spoken. I always thought it was in several other languages with subtitles and not everybody speaking English. Is this correct?

It's excellent and a very good blind buy candidate. I streamed it a few months ago and I'm very much looking forward to the BDs.

Yes, several languages are spoken including a good amount of English.

If I read the review correctly, the non-English dialogue is subtitled but the English dialogue is not. Which is a bit of a shame, actually. Some of the English is pretty heavily accented and bit hard to follow at times.

...maybe look up aspiring? Because it's not an insult, it's EXACTLY how you would describe him....it's what the term was made for...

Yes, the non-English is subtitled and the English is not (not even as an option).
It is true that some dialogue is hard to understand, but you won't find that it detracts from the story.

I think it's the fact that he putting "aspiring" in quotes that makes it come off as condescending. An aspiring writer is different from an "aspiring" writer. It's like how Charles Foster Kane hated seeing Susan Alexander referred to as a "singer." The quotes imply that she is not a REAL singer...just as the quotes around "aspiring" seem to imply that the literary aspirations of a Barnes & Noble employee will extend no further than the checkout counter.

Yes, if he were an aspiring writer. From what Beta was quoting there is no way to know the person's credentials as far as what they had or hadn't written, professional or otherwise.

He definitely understands the word. It's just that the man was described as an horror author. Which implies that he is already in fact an author. To say he is an aspiring author is slightly condescending.

Not seeing where "Let The Right One In" has deeply enriched the cinematic landscape either. But they all have their merits.

Are you seriously still missing my point? Amazing.

See, if you go back, you may note that I never said that Let the Right One In is an earth-shattering piece of cinema...I said that by no means is it any less cinematically vital than Armageddon, The Rock, or Chasing Amy. Do you see the difference there this time?

In case you don't, I'll elaborate further. I'm saying that if those movies are already IN the Criterion Collection, there's no reason to exclude a movie like Let the Right One In on the grounds that it's "not important enough." Neither are those movies, and they're in. So despite Criterion's claims, they don't just release important films. They also release lunkheaded action blockbusters and middling lowbrow comedies. Soooooo...why not a Swedish vampire film? How would that be any less at home in the Collection than Bruce Willis & Ben Affleck vs. the Asteroid? Or Ben Affleck vs. Lesbianism, for that matter?

That's my point.
