I didn't like The Killing. It felt too contrived and cliched for me.

These are great movies by some of the directors on your list. You should enjoy them. Personally I would recommend Charade and The 400 Blows to anyone.

Besides the ones above in bold, I'd suggest High and Low, The Leopard and Cronos as films that are well done and don't require any special interest.
Thanks for the recommendations guys! I'll try to check these out.

I also got Solaris (I've seen Soderbergh's version and I kinda liked it, so I might like this too, right?), My Life as a Dog, Black Narcissus, Walkabout, and 3 Women on DVR. I'm planning to watch those too some time.

Mine is "out for delivery" right now! I should have it in my hands when I get home from work. I've never seen it before, but I'm intrigued by what I've seen so far.

I should have the new Keaton today as well.

I'm going blind buy on Kureneko. Although, I have seen Onibaba and Naked Island and enjoyed them a lot. The latter would make a very interesting Criterion release.

I watched Kuroneko, and I'm buying it. I wish it were coming out on the 4th, because I could have picked it up when I got for Thanksgiving to NH. Oh well, there's always Harakiri. Is that a safe blind buy?

Solaris was on TCM this past Sunday. I PVR'ed it. It was fascinating, yet wasn't my cup of tea. I'm ashamed to admit that I dozed off for a good 20 minutes during the 3rd hour.

Black Narcissus is awesome though. It's coming on TCM this Friday. The BD is well worth it.

I bummed...for some reason my Keaton isn't supposed to arrive until tomorrow. This is the first time Amazon has not come through on release day.

I am not much of a Samurai film fan...but I LOVE Kuroneko. I hope you enjoy it!

I should have it and Keaton today!! I'm extremely excited! Also have a DVD coming 'Vampires, Mummies And Monsters Collection' Cheesy B-movie galore with Joseph Cotten in one.

So to recap one great silent film and 5 hilarious films. One on purpose.

On a side note, Let the right one in has been released on Blu-ray and on DVD in eight different countries so far. There already are very healthy Blu-ray releases of the film available in the US and UK. What's all this talk about anyway?
I miss the days where ccfixx and Spiderbaby give people hell for asking about packaging questions found on page one of this thread our speak highly of Wes Anderson...

This can be mildly annoying--I wish Criterion would start subtitling the English in mixed-language films! It doesn't matter for most foreign language films in which there is only a line or two of English, but in films like Cronos and Carlos where there are substantial amounts of English, I would really like some English subs!

Kes is all English and I would have loved English subs.

The SDH captions were an acceptable alternative but English subs would have been a nice touch.

I like to think that we passed on some of our vast knowledge to newer members. Unless I see a really ridiculous post, though, I tend to stay out of things these days. Maybe, SpiderBaby and I have just matured over these years? Maybe, we're on vacation together in the Bahamas and haven't left the bed to even bother looking at the forums as much anymore?

This. Life Aquatic and Fantastic Mr. Fox have really been the only Anderson films I've enjoyed enough to want to own. Rushmore was meh, and I saw The Royal Tenenbaums when I was about 14/15, and didn't like it. I may try watching it again 10 years later to see if I can appreciate it more.

I am most likely going to blind buy Harakiri, unless I watch it between now and October 7th. I'm keeping my eye on which B&N CC titles are "cheap," in stock in Portsmouth, and are on my wishlist. Anyone have a link for active in-store non-member coupons for B&N? I'm only looking at getting 1-2 CCs, as I'm saving for the Nov sale. However, I've been waiting a month now for my Sergio Leone trilogy from them.

Sorry about that Bud...

I have Amazon Prime through my wife's "Amazon Mom" account and will have that luxury through Christmas. Amazon is typically release date on any Criterion release that I've ever received...but Kino is a different story. I've had one or two show up a day after the release date. I know that they come from a different depot than the Criterions...either that is a factor in shipping and/or maybe they sometimes get their stock from Kino late.

Ironically...I'll open them up later to take a look...but I won't watch either of them until the weekend. Just a habit of mine.

Amazon Prime account posters:

I'm considering a move from NetFlix streaming to Amazon for the same service. It would be about a buck or so cheaper each month (just the price of a "Prime" membership for a year)...but I don't know the extent of choices as far as what they have available to stream.

Anyone here with experience with both NetFlix and Amazon have any feedback?

THANKS!

Are you insinuating that the Yorkshire accent is difficult to understand? We don't all talk like snooty Hugh Grant you know - which surely can't be a bad thing right?

My wife and I have prime (we share it with our families and split the cost) and recently decided to cancel Netflix. The big drawback for me is we can only watch Amazon streaming on the computer at this point. That was the main thing that made me hesitate before canceling Netflix. I haven't really watched anything yet, but I have looked around and there is a decent selection.
