oooh, Anatomy of a Murder - that's actually a serious guess.

Otto Preminger, Jimmy Stewart, George C. Scott...that could be a pretty good fit for them.

I don't know who the hell owns it now, though. Sony, maybe?

I still haven't received my movies from the July sale at B&N. Even went to the post office... nothing. I order from abroad fairly regularly, as far back as 2003 and now I have 4 packages missing and they're all from B&N. I, of course, am never ordering from them again. First time something liek this happens to me and -of course- it had to be in the one place I could actually get some decently priced Criterion BDs.
I spent around 250 dollars. Not happy about this at all.

Really happy with one of my local BBYs for carrying quite a good spread of Criterion titles. Today, I found Carlos and The Phantom Carriage. Had to hunt down the manager to let him know I appreciate it. With price-matching, rewards certificates, shopkick certs, it's a great place to get Criterions on the cheap!

Default Criterion Replacement Cases in Canada

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows of a place or an online store where I can get the Criterion replacement cases for the digipak cases in Canada. I'm specifically looking for the 400 Blows. I know I can order it from criterion.com and i don't mind paying 5 dollars for the replacement case plus a small shipping fee, the are charging in the vicinity of 15 dollars to ship it to Canada, which is ludicrous. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated

I am really, really sick of digipack sets. They are ugly and damage far more easier than a standard two-disc ase. Carlos should have been released like Che.

As far as I know, there is no other places to get them and yes their shipping is high unfortunately

Browsing through the massive Collection I started to wonder something. Why Criterion does not have animated films in the Collection? I mean, it is not the lack of a good one. I am sure there are many animated features that would fit nicely under the CC brand. Films like La Planete Sauvage by Laloux or Waltz with Bashir by Folman would be really great additions.

I always felt that Allegro Non Troppo by Bruno Bozzetto should be on the Criterion collection

I've been hoping Criterion would release La planete sauvage for a while now, but just caved and got the Masters of Cinema release.

There is a thread started, I asked the guy to post a picture, that Sid and Nancy came out as a Best Buy exclusive. I still find it hard to believe, but who knows. If it is true, I will still keep my dvd, as I assume there will be no extras, but the upgrade in PQ will be worth it.

EDIT: they just posted a pic of the title. The thread is below. Even though Criterion did not release this, I will be picking this up 1st thing tomorrow, as it is a film that defined my youth (music and attitude)

I just finished watching the first episode of the Carlos miniseries (streamed on NetFlix). Very good! I might consider buying this in November.

NetFlix has both the miniseries and the film to stream...what is/are the differences between the film and the series?

I watched the 3 part (I think it was 3) series via Netflix, and I believe the Criterion will include both that, and a "cut into one long movie" version as well.

I say watch no more..... buy buy buy! It's very well done.

There's got to be a 'Castro had them all shot' pun in here somewhere but I can't quite nail it down.

It's very frustrating.

1- Because France and Italy are the only countries capable of producing great "important" and "contemporary" films (Obvious sarcasm needed)
2- Read above...
3- Because they are green, that.
4- Great to see with the girlfriend.
5- Because they are a great follow-up to the answer above.

"World Cinema" to Criterion means America, Japan, France, and some drops of Germany/Italy.

I agree and it is truly sad . So much potential completely wasted in my opinion. I am not complaining about releasing films from these countries but some variation would be welcome. So many strong film industries around the world that the lack of proper representation in the format is shameful. Just a few: Iran, Russia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, India, China, Australia.

I can't really say why, but I think these are strong possibilities for releases:

Eating Raoul by Paul Bartel
The Soft Skin by François Truffaut
The Story of the Last Chrysanthemums by Kenji Mizoguchi
Permanent Vacation by Jim Jarmusch
A Kid for Two Farthings by Carol Reed
