I'm betting this one will be available for less than 15 within say 9 months. I can wait.

Based on the early reviews why is there even a need for Criterion to release this?

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Being John Malkovich is potentially coming to Criterion Blu-ray/DVD in 2012

It was speculated, because it was being screened by Criterion at the ATP Festival. Link is below:

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=7411

What I wanted to know was what was the 'TBA' screened last night.

EDIT: I have read that Straw Dogs was supposed to be the TBA film, as it could not be advertised due to license issues.

Being John Malkovich has been released on Blu-ray in Asia:

http://www.play-asia.com/Being_John_...n-70-4dkx.html

I guess Criterion could release their own version as well, like with Dazed & Confused.

On another note, does any one think that "A Night To Remember" will be released next year?? I mean, any Titanic-related media should be released in 2012. The opportunity to put a "100th Anniversary Commemorative Edition" or "Commemorative Centennary Edition" banner is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the studios!! Any "102th Anniversary" editions would be plain wrong
Not sure what else they might have but they list the following for Hitchcock on their site
The Thirty Nine steps
The Lady Vanishes
Rebecca
Spellbound (out of print)
Notorious (out of print)

Only "The Lady Vanishes" is listed in blu-ray. They may have lost rights to the two listed as out of print.

Just a friendly heads up. Anyone that's looking for the replacement case for The Man Who Fell to Earth, it is back in stock but they told me they only have about 100 left and then they will be gone for good.

Nice. I'm sure it would have gotten a release without Criterion's involvement, but it's good that a company that takes proper care will get to do it. [spoiled Blu-ray collector]And now I want the Qatsi trilogy on Blu-ray, dammit [end spoiled Blu-ray collector]

I also only got to watch Kagemusha today, after having it in my collection for far too long without watching it, and I was pleasantly surprised. Most people viewed it as 'mediocre Kurosawa', which turned into just 'mediocre' in my head, and I was glad to see that wasn't the case. One of the best photographed movies on BD, surely.

Wow, that will surely do for an awesome cover art !!! Great to see Belle de Jour is coming at the beginning of the year. So this and the much undiscussed Nanook of the North hint is what we have right now? January is shaping up really well. Let's hope the later title is the one actually hinted and coming, as it has been one of my most anticipated upgrades (Although, for some reason, I always forget to write it up in my most anticipated Criterion "wishlists" )

If nothing else, there should be a decent number of gently used copies floating around in a month or two.

Then I can use the money I saved to buy Airplane!
I really wanted to get a copy. I missed out because there was very few theaters that showed, and fewer theaters that do good showings.

My Local theater just brought The Tree of Life here... after 4 months since it came out officially, and it's a POS theater. I'm more than looking forward to the blu ray release.

+1, or 'Like'...then again, that applies to more than one European '60s sex goddess...

I have the SC version of Belle de Jour and am satisfied with it, so the Criterion would have to be a drastically better transfer to consider a double-dip.

On a Bunuel note, I just recently picked up the OOP Criterion DVDs of Diary of a Chambermaid and That Obscure Object of Desire on eBay for $5 apiece! Probably my best such find ever.

I also have the Studio Canal release of Belle de Jour, but this is good news for those who can only play region A BDs. The region 1 DVD has been out of print for some time and it was nothing great.

I'll be excited when they announce an upgrade for Viridiana.

I just recently purchased a region-free BD player and was seriously considering purchasing Belle de Jour even though I knew Criterion had been hinting at their own release. Glad I waited now - January can't come soon enough.
My first region 2 buys were Amer and Don't Look Now and I absolutely loved both of them. Coming soon is one of my all time favorite guilty pleasures Brotherhood of the Wolf from Amazon.France.

Viridiana and El Angel Exterminador are my personal Criterion wishes in Bunuel related films . One film I would love for Criterion to adquire is Los Olvidados which is, in my opinion, Bunuel's masterpiece. That would be the best surprise the CC can give me .
