I agree, my favorite Bunuel is Viridiana, but I also wish Criterion could acquire one that seems not too many people mention: Nazarin which is probably my second favorite just ahead of Los Olvidados.

I thought Amer was interesting. It's definitely an example of style trumping story, though, so it's not for everyone.

I saw Don't Look Now for the first time on BD and I loved it too. A lot of people complained about the picture quality, and while it could have been better, it was perfectly watchable.

I still own Brotherhood of the Wolf on HD DVD. I should probably revisit it sometime.

I see you have Juliette there

I thought I'd mention that Kino will handle Malgorzata Szumowska's Elles

Since you have a Region-Free player, this is a good disc to own also:

Interesting, because as of today I now have three TMWFTE plastic cases, all courtesy of Criterion, when I only wanted one.

During their 75,000 second sale, I ordered 3 Women, and seven plastic cases to replace some seriously non-gripping slipcases for their early blu-ray releases. TMWFTE was one of the seven. After nearly three weeks with no shipping notice, I emailed them and got a reply that TMWFTE case was out of stock in the warehouse, delaying my order. My order would ship out of their production office in New York City instead since that location had the case. A few days later my order arrived, nicely packaged, but missing the case for TMWFTE. I emailed them asking about it and received a sincere apology that it wasn't in the order, along with a promise to ship out the case immediately.

Today I go into the office and the morning mail delivery brings me two boxes from Criterion. The big box contained my entire order again, but this time it had the case for TMWFTE included. The second smaller box contained a case for TMWFTE. Then in the afternoon, the second mail run brings me yet another box from Criterion containing yet another case.

So now I have two copies of 3 Women, two copies each of six replacement cases, and three replacement cases for TMWFTE. No one can ever claim Criterion does not deliver on their promises.

[Show spoiler]Gotta contact them to see how they want me to return all the duplicates they sent me.

I may have to do this as well, eventually I'll pick this up and don't want to miss out on a case. I just recently secured The Third Man. Speaking of cases, is there custom art anywhere for Benjamin Button, so that it's the same size as the rest of criterion's art? Does criterion offer this?

I would love for someone to speculate: is it entirely feesible for CC to reacquire films from studios after they let the original studio release them first (i.e. Fear & Loathing, Dazed & Confused) on BD?

So, you know, films like Spartacus, Brazil, and Do the Right Thing from Uni, Straw Dogs, RoboCop, Silence of the Lambs from MGM, etc...

And since The Rock was shown at the ATP festival, does that mean they still own the rights for a possible Blu release of their own?

As long as the DVD version is still in print, then they still have at least have the rights. They have mentioned in the past having to renegotiate bluray rights or at the very least they are considered separate and involve separate licensing involved. So, Straw Dogs, Robocop, Lambs aren't gonna happen. They mentioned earlier in the year that Brazil would be within the next year or two. I think Do The Right Thing could be a good bet, but that Bluray has a lot of the Criterion supplements, just the color is off, which to many would warrant a re-do.

Hope that helps.

I already emailed Criterion saying that although I really appreciate all the free loot, I feel I should return the duplicates. Let's see what they say.

Well, today's the day we commit Harakiri with Salo.

Bad pun, I know. Argh, I wish the B&N sale was kicking off this month, so I can buy a bunch on Friday, including Harakiri. No Salo for me though.

I hope not. There are more important films for Criterion to tackle.

I own Breaking and Entering on DVD already (Shoot, I own just about every film Juliette Binoche starred in ) but at that price I don't think I can pass up the chance to upgrade to blu. Thanks.

I got Brotherhood of the Wolf from Amazon.fr recently, as well. Looks and sounds pretty good.
I just don't get why it (or any film) should be a guilty pleasure. It should just be a pleasure

also, it's going to be postponed until November, unless I do give in and pick Harakiri and Kagemusha up from B&N, because it's still cheaper than the Canadian price.

I am waiting for November as well (let's hope there will be a sale ) for my next Criterion purchases. I don't have as many as some of you to buy but the difference in prices just make's it worth while.

I think I have about 4-20 I want. Some might be removed from the list, or ranked lower in importance. I just hope the dollar doesn't go any lower!
