Anyone catch the Nick Ray films on TCM last night? I recorded a few of them.

In a Lonely Place is really good.

I wouldn't put it in the absolute top tier of noir but it's awfully close (and it grows on me a little more every time I see it).

No, but They Live By Night is by far my fav Ray film. I believe that was on, but seen it many times.

TCM sucks this October, only a couple of Hammer films will be shown (starting tonight with Curse of Frankenstein). I own pretty much all the ones they will show this year (I will DVR them though, being HD and all). Last year had a few on every Friday night.

I can give them a pass on that though, because speaking of Ray, We Can't Go Home Again is going to be on the 25th. F*** yeah. Hope we get a release for this film.

I remembered that and I was sure to record it.

I saw KNOCK ON ANY DOOR a while back and it's pretty good and hey it's got Bogart so worth a watch.

They're showing Ray films every Tuesday due to his 100th b-day. Contrary to what SpiderBaby is saying, there's tons on TCM this month. i'm still trying to catch up on my PVRs from the past week.

Based on the other videos, it looks like Criterion allows their "guests" to take 5 or 6 of their films. Anyone have any idea what they would take if they had the chance?

My list:

The Killing/Killer’s Kiss
Dazed and Confused
Wages of Fear
Days of Heaven
12 Angry Men
Bottle Rocket

I would stand in front of the blu-rays, close my eyes, and just pick things randomly.

Looks more like a F4U-4 Corsair, probably means we're getting Flying Leathernecks.

See the schematic near the end of the entry.

Has to be a black and white film. If not, why change the color of the picture?

A Matter of Life and Death by Powell-Pressburger, according to some members over the facebook page. This would mark the first time of this film in the CC and it also is a Powell-Pressburger production so it sounds exactly like something Criterion would release .

If this is true, it would be DAY ONE. It would also mean that CC would have all of the trio Archer films that were photographed by Jack Cardiff.

Could be. The fighter doesn't seem to have the distinctive gull-wing of a corsair, but it is only a model after all and shown from below at that. More intriguing is that Flying Leathernecks is a Nicholas Ray movie, which I find timely given the recent discussions about Ray above. FL is in technicolor, so the B&W image may not mean anything beyond a hint. I think FL was also a Howard Hughes film (RKO?).

I think this is pretty cool, although if I had my wish Criterion would be releasing The Blue Max and The Bridges at Toko-Ri along with it. Both of those are superb air war classics that are high on my blu-ray wish list. I would love to see them get the Criterion treatment.
