You mean to tell me Criterion took a photo and turned it to B&W just to be hip?

It'd be sweet if it was, but Niven is on a bombing mission on a Avro Lancaster in Europe...if this is a clue for that film, they might as well have photographed a paper airplane.

Only problem is that A Matter of Life and Death and this hint do not match at all. AMOLAD is a British film set in Europe about a bomber crewman, and is also in color (although that may not mean anything). However, it is one of the great classics of British cinema and would be awesome if it made its way into the CC.

What makes you think they turned a color photo into a B&W? Maybe it is a stock image. When I look at it I see a 1950s kid playing with airplanes. Sort of like Beaver Cleaver goes to war.

Or maybe Criterion was just playing around, you know ? It must be really stressing to get the rights for all those films, they must play with each other's planes once in a while .

Wasn't there speculation of Gojira/Godzilla being released in 2012?

It could very well be stock image from a film. But if it is, I highly doubt it's any of the guesses on here so far.

It could also be a set photo. Wouldn't be too shocking to find b/w set photos from 1951 technicolor film for example.

This might not be a clue at all...don't know that facebook photos should be considered clues. There's currently a doc about Ray called DON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH playing at film festivals, that will probably be an extra on the Oscilloscope release of Ray's last film, WE CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN. No guarantees Oscilloscope's release will be a blu, FWIW.

If so, this photo could be a 'tribute' to a CC director, Ray. It was his 100th "birthday" this year.

I'd be okay with a CC release of Flying Leathernecks, though.

I don't remember well the planes in this movie, but couldn't it be Douglas Sirk's The Tarnished Angels which is in b&w and feature Dorothy Malone (which is sooooooo in this movie) and Rocky Hudson ?

I would die to see a color Douglas Sirk movie on blu-ray by the way, but The Tarnished Angels was really amazing...

If that's a screenshot, it's not from Gojira. It also wouldn't make any sense at all other than being black and white considering there's like three planes for 20 seconds near the end and that's it, would be the most vague and amazingly unrelated hint for anything ever.

The scenario for Angels is the world of barnstormers in the 30's.

Not Flying Leathernecks. That is a RKO title owned by Warner. They never loan out films.

It's a piece used for the storyboards for the dogfight in Star Wars, so we're getting the original trilogy after all .
