I don't think a Criterion edition would feature another cut, but I'm sure there would be more a few more extras (and of more substantive content) than the lone half-hour long featurette that's on the Fox disc, plus a booklet with an essay or two at least.

But when Criterion releases The Tree of Life, they will have released more than half of his films, lol.

And, as I said, I'm sure the main reason Criterion hasn't released the other two is reluctance from Warner, which isn't involved with The Tree of Life.,,

To answer your question on the last page, I'd like any one that I don't already have in my collection! One title I've particularly wanted for quite some time is 'Paris, Texas'. I very nearly picked it up at the summer B&N sale, and definitely don't want to miss out on it next month's sale. Looking at the ones you listed wanting yourself (in the post after your response to mine) I'd particularly recommend House and A Christmas Tale.
Thanks for the recommendation.

A Christmas Tale was one of those films I just missed when it was out in theaters that year. I've always wanted to see it since. And House seems as if it would be a bizzare oddity of a film (in a good way ).

As far as Criterion specific Pasolini they released his film "Mamma Roma" and Bernardo Bertolucci's film "La Commare Secca" which is based on a story written by Pasolini and both are great. I would also highly recommend "The Gospel According To Matthew", "Accatone", and "The Hawks and The Sparrows". Hawks and The Sparrows is particularly an enjoyable lighthearted film that pretty much anyone can enjoy. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to check those out, plus the Bertolucci film; I love his work too.

You can pick up Mamma Roma on DVD, though. It's been rumored for a while that Criterion will release Pasolini's 'Trilogy of Life' films, but who knows when that's gonna ever happen. In the meantime, and if you have a region-free player, you can pick up those three films on blu-ray from the BFI. Medea is going to be given a Region A release in December from entertainmentone, but we'll have to wait to see about their quality. Masters Of Cinema, from the UK, also just announced that they're releasing Accattone and The Gospel According To Matthew on blu-ray March 2012. They'll more than likely be Region B, though, so you'll need a region-free player.
Nice to see all these suggestions. I've been thinking of buying a region free player for a long time now. I may now have a few good excuses to act. Thank you.

As far as I know, the only Sony-controled titles Criterion has the rights to are those found in the America Lost and Found/BBS box. I really do wish there were more. Sony is definitely not at the forefront when it comes to releasing its catalog on blu.

Default January Lineup.

After taking a look at The Music Room, it would really be nice if Criterion released some more of Satyajit Ray's work.

Or how about more Mira Nair? Salaam Bombay would be a terrific surprise. And I think it could be done as part of Criterion's ongoing relationship with MGM.

I also would love to see Wild Strawberries on blu.

I've been buying a lot of movies lately and decided to take a break. Then came the price tracker saying The Seventh Seal met my price range. I hope it's a good blind buy!

All that I can wish for in the announcement is more Tati: Jour de fête (which has yet to have a R1 DVD release), M. Hulot's Holiday (which recently had a new restoration, which Janus toured a few years ago), or Mon Oncle (Janus screened the recently re-discovered of his "English" cut of the film, last year). In my opinion these are all long overdue.

Saw Salaam Bombay! a couple of weeks ago and was truly amazed by the sheer power of its subject matter. This is definitely the best work from Nair and I wish it gets released sometime in the future. The film reminded me a lot of Los Olvidados by Bunuel. Both films touch upon the difficulties lived by the poorest class of their countries and also follow a group of young people for the purpose.

Criterioncast posted some pics of the Kuroneko cover that I was talking about. I have a feeling the effect is much better in person, but even like this its still a pretty nifty idea.

Would anyone else be happy with a blu-ray upgrade for Naruse’s When a Woman Ascends the Stairs?

I blind bought this as well and I thought it was fantastic. Favorite Criterion thus far. I don't think you will be disapointed.

Great looks like another cardboard case. I'm sure Amazon and UPS will be kind enough to destroy my copy before I get it.

Amazon really needs to offer a quality packaging service where people can pay a little extra for better packaging. DON'T BUBBLE WRAP CARDBOARD DIGIPACKS!

ok now I must breath and count to 10 like my doctor told me..
