It's great news. I never bought the DVDs and have never seen the films, so I'm really looking forward to their eventual release. Wonder if CC will follow the Chaplin protocol of one per year, rain or shine.

I now have a great feeling about a certain Eclipse I have been wanting, if one comes tomorrow. Announcements might not be that bad, and actually great.

You highly requested Gorin Eclipse ? Let's hope tomorrow is a day of surprises instead of dissapointments.

It's not the Dziga Vertov group films with Godard/Gorin that I really want, but hey, the Gorin films is much needed as well and will make this announcements for me by itself. Can't wait now.

I think it will have:

Poto and Cabengo
Routine Pleasures
My Crasy Life

Island of Lost Souls pics are up!

http://www.criterionforum.org/DVD-pa...collection/896

I love the booklet cover image with Laughton.

Also, the back cover list the BD has having "New digital restoration". This should imply that the new transfer is in 2k resolution. (Criterion releases of late have been designated as having "High-definition digital restoration" if the transfer is HD, and "digital restoration" if transfers are 2 or 4k)

They released Shampoo on Laser but I am pretty sure it was bare bones, but I do love Shampoo... it could be very grain heavy at times, but should look grain-i-licious in HD.

Very jealous. I can't wait to pick this one up. The packaging also looks very sweet.

I still have the Pather Panchali DVD that went OOP, but never got around to getting parts 2 and 3. This will be a milestone.

Yeah, me too. The director confirmed Criterion was working on it several years ago at a screening of the trilogy in L.A. But since then, no word (unless i missed something).

Well so far, the Gorin Eclipse might be true. Still holding out hope for the Fassbinder. There is one title that will sure make alot of people happy I guess.

Plus the Hollis Frampton boxset is going to be awesome (though it was highly rumored for sometime, so no big surprise).
Hollis Frampton??? Doh!! I thought you were talking about Peter Frampton. Man, I was so excited by that news I busted out Frampton Comes Alive in the truck on the way home from work.

Now I feel so....disappointed. No PF in the Criterion Collection after all.

Can't wait to see how the Apu trilogy looks in glorious HD, never thought those would be saved from the old, old, rubbish-looking sources used for all the previous DVD releases.

Hope they can do the same with Dersu Uzala and Passion of Joan of Arc. Those are my two remaining Holy Grails in desperate need of significant upgrades.

I heard the hold-up might be waiting for licenses to expire on either the MGM DVDs of Koyaanisqatsi/Powaqqatsi or the Miramax Naqoyqatsi disc so they can release the trilogy.

Here's hoping...

So many upgrades on my wish list. But for now I will settle for:

The Cranes are Flying
Le Samourai
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold

C'mon Criterion. Make my day.

I would probably never put that on an upgrade list but I would be absolutely thrilled if they ever announced it.

Damn, I'm good.

oooh, Anatomy of a Murder - that's actually a serious guess.

Otto Preminger, Jimmy Stewart, George C. Scott...that could be a pretty good fit for them.

I don't know who the hell owns it now, though. Sony, maybe?

just for the sake of justice and because it's Chaplin I'm hoping for a at least 3 disc blu-ray Criterion release of Duck Soup.

is the announcement today? I'm hoping for Le Samourai, Royal Tenembaums and Spy Who Came In From The Cold, had no idea Criterion owned the rights to that until I saw another poster suggest it
