Cronenberg is for most people love him or hate him, I'm one of the few who really likes, but doesn't quite love him. He is a master at subtly providing his films with substance and relevance while at the core, the majority of his earlier work being of the body horror variety, that's what sets him apart from his fellow body horror directors to me, but I'm more into Psychological Horror than Body Horror and that's probably what keeps me from loving him, or at least his early work.

I think what I respect so much about Cronenberg (at least in The Fly and Videodrome) is the way he combines psychological horror and body horror. The ideas and implications of those films are more unsettling than the (admittedly spectacular) gore and effects.

yeah, his films do have plenty of Psychological horror, I just wish he would have focused on just those elements and get rid of the body horror (which I hate).

I see where you're coming from. I don't care much for body horror either, but the hypersexual Giger-esque quality of Cronenberg's films works for me.

I just bought traffic for 6 bucks a few weeks ago, I will definitely upgrade to the criterion version though. Surprised to see Royal Tenenbaums wasn't announced with it being it's 10 year anniversary.

Belle de Jour, Gojira and Gorin for me . To be honest, I am not crazy about Traffic. Unexpected? Yes. Exciting? Not so much . Have not seen A Moment of Truth and the fact it wasn't the Almodovar is really a bummer. Solid month I guess, still I was expecting something more mind-blowing.
