Seems like Criteron is not what you are looking for. Those are pretty much the exceptions to the usual releases they have.

Is "Last Year at Marienbad" worth a blind buy? I like to buy films that lend themselves to repeat viewings and not just sit on the shelf so much.

Thanks!
Kevin
It's one of my absolute favorite movies of all time, but I don't really recommend it for a blind buy. But it DEFINITELY lends itself to repeat viewings depending on the type of film viewer you are.

I loved the Seventh Seal as well, and before that I had watched the Third Man which I also loved I just picked up Wings of Desire and thought that was incredible, along with The Man Who Fell to Earth (also incredible)...I would recommend those!

Funny, I watched it on Blu for the first time too, although that was a couple of days ago. I was more impressed with it than I was when I saw it the first time on dvd. I really loved it now.
I was also really impressed with The 400 Blows, I would suggest that title. It's really good.

Repulsion is my favorite Criterion, and one of my favorite films of all time. It's beautiful in simplicity, yet so stunningly shot it pulls you into the broken mind of that poor girl. I had the Criterion laserdisc all these years, but the blu is a revelation.

Yeah, I can't enjoy a Polanski film.

Thanks for all the great recommendations guys. I wish Gimme Shelter was part of the BN sale, but alas it is not.

I think I'm going to pick up either WoD, 400 Blows, or WoF.

I loved that one too. The shot where Carol is in her bedroom and
[Show spoiler]opens up her closet and you can see in the mirror on it that a man is standing in the doorway
scared me quite a bit. I was apprehensive of the rest of the film, but that wasn't so bad. It's still a great movie, though.
And I couldn't resist to order some more BDs in B&N's sale. I ordered Howard's End, The Last Emperor and Pierrot le Fou. Howard's End seems to divide most people, as far as I've read about. I'm wondering how you guys like it. And I know The Last Emperor was cropped from it's original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, but I still wanted it.

Just got back from B&N, now I have the complete Criterion on blu-ray (so far!). YIPPIE! Too bad Gomorrah won't be included this time. Time to start saving for the next sale!

I despise Howard's End.

I have them all, but need to "Re-order" the pre-orders once I get a new Credit Card..... (since my other one was canceled due to fraud )

I've been getting all the Crriterion BDs as well, and there are only two I don't really see myself watching again - Howards End and Complete Monterey Pop. Everything else I've loved.

I ordered Wings of Desire yesterday and now BN states "Unable to process order." at the status.
Is this normal for an order which is available in 1-2 weeks or should I reorder it?

I had it with my first order too. A couple of days later they shipped the first half of it. So, I wouldn't worry about it.

There's a naked lady on the inside of the Monterey Pop boxset. Naughty Criterion!

You can't enjoy a Polanski film why?

I'm not sure if the poster's reasoning is the same as mine, but I have trouble enjoying a Polanski film due to his inexcusable rape of that poor child. It is difficult for me to not think about it a little bit when watching a Polanski film, which I know should garner some criticism from those who think I should just separate the two. But, maybe, it's just me.

That being said, I do not think Polanski is a very good director. I think Chinatown is one of the most overrated "classic" films of all time, same with "Rosemary's Baby." However, I thought the Pianist was wonderful.

To me, irrespective of his unfathomable transgression, I think he is a mediocre director who is vastly overrated.

Ummm, she's gone on record saying that she's OK with it, it's just society that's not (really just American society). Not to start a politcal discussion, nor am I condoning what he did, but in other parts of the world this wouldn't even have been an issue.
