I (or maybe I'm not the only one who's been complaining..) caused Amazon to temporarily stop selling Seven Samurai because I got a damaged copy and a damaged replacement and (rightfully) complained about it.

While we investigate the problems you experienced, the "Seven Samurai (The Criterion Collection)" will be unavailable for purchase from Amazon.com. However, you may be able to purchase it from other marketplace sellers on the Amazon.com website. If you see this item offered by Amazon.com again in the future, you'll know we've fixed the problem.
Is this the first time they've taken complaints against their crappy bubble mailer shipping seriously or has it happened before? Do they actually fix the problem?

Nah. They'll just keep doing the same, just like in the past. Betcha a nickel.

Shame. I suppose I'll just pick up Seven Samurai again during the B&N sale.

Never going to order anything except regular keepcase discs from Amazon again. Kinda pissed right now.

Just throwing this out there, usually Criterion's website ships items in a box. You would prob need to order more than 1 item though. That way nothing gets beat up in shipping.

I'd love a full-size poster of Sweet Smell of Success.
Meanwhile, I can't order any posters from Criterion because I'm in Australia.
I don't suppose anyone knows where else I could buy them from?

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but Criterion's January slate has become available for preorder at Amazon.com.

Belle de Jour
Godzilla
The Moment of Truth
Traffic

I just ordered all four, with Traffic being my most anticipated of these titles.

Hmm, I'll consider it in the future. Are any other Criterion releases in digipak/book things? I need to know what to avoid getting from Amazon.

There are several titles from Criterion in digipacks. Generally, any title that contains more than one disc will be in a digipack (e.g., The Battle of Algiers, Carlos, The Leopard, The Night of the Hunter, America Lost and Found: the BBS Story...). But there are several single-disc releases that were released in digipacks. Some have a booklet that's a little thicker than usual (e.g., Amarcord, Sweet Smell of Success, Salo: or the 120 Days of Sodom...), while others were released relatively early in Criterion's blu-ray history (the studio initially packaged all its blu-ray offerings in slimmer digipacks with slipcovers: The Last Emperor, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Chungking Express, Last Year at Marienbad...).

Although I've also had the same issue with digipacks of all sizes (not just Criterion but those of other studios too) being damaged due to poor packaging by Amazon, I still buy from Amazon always have them replace any damaged merchandise. When replacing such items always select, in their Returns Center, that the item was damaged due to inappropriate packaging and type a note that you expect the item to arrive in mint condition. Also, you can contact them by email or phone to express your concern about the packaging. This does usually help, at least for one order. It's true that Amazon needs to work on its packaging in many cases, but I still prefer to deal with them than wait for the next B&N sale.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, bubble mailer is amazing compared to how other websites ship. Look at HMV.com, a thin cardboard box (I use box loosely, it's basically two sheets of construction paper glued around the order) with absolutely no packing what so ever.

I just watched Secret Sunshine. I ended up liking it less then I thought I would, though there were several things I enjoyed about it. And Song Kang-Ho has probably the most realistic laugh of any actor

CG? Did you mean BG, as in me? I've made it quite clear I'm a girl multiple times around this site.

For once, the Canadian prices are only 50 cents more on these titles, and the Canadian site had them up a day or two before the US site. I'm in for Gojira, as I'm not too familiar with the other three, and will probably wait for a sale. I'll also be recovering from Christmas and I have to do a MVI then too.

I've only ever received a bubble mailer once from Amazon, and that was the US site, and it Paths of Glory. But then, I've always ordered multiple titles, so I always get a cardboard box. None of my digipacks from Amazon have ever been damaged. Ditto from when I order from B&N. Chapters-Indigo also uses bubble mailers for single items, in the rare event that I order a film from them as they are usually higher in price, and I've had the same problem as you. I think if you order 1 or 2 together, you should be safe ordering digipacks from Amazon.

Want. Want the sale to hurry up so I can get it too.

I agree. I honestly can't fathom paying 80+ for a single title. 40 (with tax and/or shipping) is my limit as to how much I'll spend.

No what Beta mean's is that the member you were not sure if it was him/her SpiderBaby was once called CassaveteGodard....thus why he refer to him as CG

For anyone in the Chicagoland area, the rumored future Criterion release, World on a Wire, is being shown tonight at the Siskel Center. Link is below for anyone in the area.

Last week when I received The Four Feathers, Amazon had shipped it to me in a bag. Yes...a plastic bag. Nothing else to protect it either. I've always had them come in boxes, so I was completely dumbfounded as to how they could have let it leave their warehouse like that. They were lucky that everything was still in perfect condition.

Pre-ordered the MoC Touch of Evil steelbook from HMV. Sounds like it will be a miracle if it arrives undamaged. How is HMV on replacing damaged merchandise?

...Exported damaged merchandise for that matter.

have ordered many discs (including steel books) over the years from hmv - all arrive in the same cardboard packaging - maybe i am lucky but never once had a damaged item. much prefer hmv packaging to jiffy bags (bubble wrap mailers).
