this is exactly what I meant earlier. Thanks for branching it out a bit. ÷1

You are right in most regards and incorrect in others, but this is a nicely written piece. However, I will leave my issues with some things here unsaid, unless you would like to discuss it via pm.

I hate the argument that it's hurting the victim by bringing the case up again. A criminal prosecution and a civil prosecution are completely different. Civil is to give reparations to the victim. Criminal is to punish the perpetrator who broke the law, which is what they are trying to do. In my opinion, we need to stop shielding alleged rape victims from any and all publicity anyways. It only helps perpetuate the awful stigma that it is somehow the partly the victim's fault.

Anyways, why did this come up? It really doesn't have to do with Polanski's films at all.

I always separate real life from film. Someone's personal actions never make a movie they were involved with any worse.

I haven't seen Gomorrah, but I figure it's probably a good film. I might pick it up, next week. But I'm trying to save some money to buy Christmas presents for others.

I love Polanski films. What he does off the director's chair is between the "law", the victim, and him. Everyone else has no real input and justs rambles on about nothing because it's not going to change anything. Nothing will change that day, nor the day his wife and unborn child was murdered. So..............

Is "Last Year at Marienbad" worth a blind buy? I like to buy films that lend themselves to repeat viewings and not just sit on the shelf so much.

Thanks!
Kevin
Yes indeed, Last Year Marienbad is an excellent French film. The blu-ray transfer is incredible, and the mono soundtrack is nice and clean. The extras are great as well, my only quibble is why not include the director's "Night And Fog" along with the other two shorts that were included, it's only 32 min. long and would have fit on the disc w/ no problem. A five star movie and a five star blu-ray.

Kndy's database has spurred me to finish my own little tool for keeping track of my Criterion's. Much thanks to him for the motivation and some of the cut and paste info I've done from his sheet.

I've put together a simpler spreadsheet to keep track of the various versions of Criterion titles over the years. I've included macros to quickly sort by director, title, spine number, year, country or by titles owned and condensed the text to a smaller area. There's a seperate tab with instruction on how to use the macros and add images for future releases. If anyone else here finds it useful, feel free to use and expand upon it.

Thanks all

(As a sidenote, despite my Criterion heavy Netflix queue, I was saddened to look at how pedantic and American the titles I actually own are)

Yikes, correction. No attachment here. It's a little too large. Here's a link

Agreed on the quality of the Marienbad BD. I just watched it this weekend. However, I wouldn't recommend it as a blind buy, because it's definitely not a film that has universal appeal. If you have a high tolerance for non-narrative films or are fascinated by the subconscious (dreams, repressed memories, etc) then you will probably love it - otherwise, I'd suggest renting it first. I do fall into both of those categories and was extremely fascinated by it, but I'm sure that wouldn't be the case for everyone. If you are like me though, you'll get sucked into the film's mystery and definitely want to watch it multiple times.

Awesome, now only if Amazon would actually update my pre-orders with the lower prices. Their Pre-order price guarantee is so spotty, it seems like I end up requesting the adjustment 60% of the time instead of it going automatically. Anyway, enough ranting, bring on the lower prices for A Christmas Tale and some of the January releases too!

sorry to hear that

not that your situation is not always a bad thing, but this week is probably the worst week not to have a creditcard.
(or the best week, depending on how much control someone has over their spending)

Did you use your card at places like resteraunts (where they take the card to the back to process) or a ATM that is not Bank owned?,I've horror stories these things called "skimming devices" that steal imporatant info when cards are "swiped". I had the same thing happen to me in 2004 when I had some bogus charges on my card all of a sudden , Wachovia took care of me and removed the suspicious charges and gave me a brand new card with new number. Hope everything works out for the best Beta Man, Scarry, now we have to worry about "digital pickpockets", especially this time of the year!

Well..... I'll give you a little more "Off Topic" information

I used to work for a major ATM manufacturer, so I know all about the skimming devices people would use.

What happened, (I think) was I went to a bar, and was running late..... I never use my C.C. for little stuff like this, but nonetheless, I charged a $14 bar-tab at a place I go to all the time with friends, but have always paid cash...... anyways that was my last charge on the card, prior to someone in Iowa/Idaho, or some other state starting with "I" charging $7,000 or so on my card......

I was notified, and my card has been canceled for the past 5 or 6 days, and it feels like a month!!!!!

To make matters worse, the mail didn't come yesterday....so if my new card was to be in yesterday's post..... my carrier didn't think it was important enough to bring us mail!

I need to jump on the price drop of "Gimme Shelter" too.... although I should be able to update my payment options, and lock that price in via the pre-order price guarantee.....

We'll see though.

EDIT:

I recently returned 4 Blu-ray players I bought as gifts.... and I need a C.C. to jump on four more if a good deal comes up........ I can't believe how much I rely on that card!!!!!

Hopefully the mailman will deliver your new card today. I hope the card company removed the suspicious charges on you account. Well, I'm going to SC for a few days at Myrtle Beach at our vacation home before I have to come back reality and work my Black Friday 7-3 shift at Target. Back to the subject of Criterion, hopefully you can get in on Gimmie Shelter for 23.99 when you get the new card!
