Having seen the Criterion previews for A Christmas Tale and Fanny and Alexander, I haven't got a clue what I want. Both look promising and would seem a better fit to order with My Life as a Dog.

There is no set in stone date, but this will be a definite upgrade, along with The Life Aquatic, meaning all of Wes Anderson's films will be on Blu-ray. All with excellent transfers. Fans of Wes are in for a treat.

And let us please stop acting like children, some of you are really scraping the bottom of the basket looking for insults. It's embaressing and makes our forum look like a bunch of bad Cinema nerds.

I asked this in the Barnes & Noble sale thread, but had no response.
Perhaps someone here can help:

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before.
Because I've got pre-orders in my order, it won't ship until of 13th of December.
I'm now regretting not putting Island of Lost Souls in my order - is it possible to add it to the order?
I've had a look through their site and don't see mention of it on the help page.
It seems you can cancel items, but not add them.

Watched 3 Women last night...... I thought my current wife would really dig the "twist" and "transformation" that occurs.....

Turns out she just thought the movie was "pointless" errr... unfortunate. First she didn't care for "The Tree of Life" and now this....

Good thing there aren't any laws against watching films alone

I agree with octagon's comments. LM,P was an excellent blind buy and an unexpected offering from J.P. Melville. Both Jean-Paul Belmondo and Emmanuelle Riva are fantastic in this emotionally poignant film.

Many films in the collection seem to go unnoticed here. (recent releases included) Cul-de-Sac, which is one of my favorite films, had little to no interest on this board.

I was thinking how sweet an america lost and found set #2 would be. with a continued mix of popular classics and obscure classics, some ideas:

The Trip
Paper Moon
The Last Movie
Hair
Blume in Love
The Last Detail
Play Misty for me
Carnal Knowledge
Psych-Out
Duel
Play it Again, Sam
American Graffiti

Nice. Can't wait to upgrade "The Life Aquatic" and 'The Royal Tenenbaums" from DVD to Blu-Ray

Don't know if I will pick up "Rushmore" on Blu-Ray, not the biggest fan of it.

One I will defiantly pick up will be "12 Angry Men" love the film and love the cover on it too!

I just made my order and wanted to let anybody know who offered advice what I chose and why I may have listened to, or ignored, their advice. It was a very hard decision and I wish I had a whole lot more money! I ordered:

The Killing - I love film noir and this sounds like the perfect Kubrick film to me, which may be blasphemous but whatever. Glad a couple people said it was great - and a close friend that I know who runs a used store said to go for it too.

Bottle Rockets - Honestly? Recently life has been sucking and this looked like a good cheery film that might pick me up a little bit. Truth be told, this sale is partly retail therapy for me right now. And pick-me-ups are good.

Pierrot Le Fou - I've never seen any Godard, so I hope I made the right choice. I forever regret not getting The Third Man before it went OOP and before it got impossible to find, so I used that model to get this instead of 400 Blows or Red Shoes. Both of which are very high on my list when it comes to 4-6.

If I were able to get even three more, I would have gotten 400 Blows, The Red Shoes, and it probably would have come down to Au Revoir Les Enfants or The Double Life of Veronique.

Thanks to everybody for their help and I'm sorry if I ended up brushing aside your suggestion. If any of you want to send me some money, I'll happily order three more
You will not regret Bottle Rocket. That is one great film. I would pick it up myself, but it's already on my DVR. So I'm completely lost trying to pick out my first Criterion.

I love that movie as well. But I'm leaning toward making my first Criterion a blind buy, which is how I buy most of my films. I believe I've literally only seen about 4 of the Criterion Collection films (The Darjeeling Limited, Bottle Rocket, Benjamin Button, and Dazed and Confused). I think it's time I delve into the collection further.

I'd suggest Sweet Smell Of Success. It was a blind buy for me earlier this year, and it's a movie I can't imagine anyone not liking.

Get Diabolique or Army of Shadows is you are feeling bold about it ! Those two are my favorite Criterion releases (Both were blind-buys to me) and I absolutely recommend them. If you want to play it safe, I would go with Seven Samurai and Days of Heaven. The first one is a classic, a film that does not need recommendation (Most of the time, at least), while the second one is a pretty great package, especially in the PQ department with its beautiful cinematography. As for the film itself, well, I would not say is my favorite Criterion release but is a solid attempt non-the-less .

It really is! It's one of my favorites of the collection.....I like something that I read about it, saying you had to see it to believe it...then see it again to make sure what you believe you saw really happened.

Should I feel wrong for not being really eager to get House? Not that I think it is an uninteresting film but I have never feel the urge to get it . I will probably get it down the line but it is not a priority at the moment and hearing everyone saying it is an amazing blind buy I feel a little bit left out .

Haha! Yea I read that too before I watched it, and now I'm thinking of taking up that second viewing tonight, lol. The energy of that film is just great. And who doesn't love watching cute Japanese girls run around a haunted house in their underwear?

Just wondering if the six moral tales and Berlin alexanderplatz will be released anytime soon on blu ray. I want to buy the dvd versions but am afraid of them being upgraded. Any possibility?

House is definitely not for everyone. Impressions about this movie seem to come in cycles. A few months ago if House was mentioned at all the feedback was mostly cautionary and not a recommended blind buy. Now, it seems to be getting a lot of praise. I think it has rewatch value mainly because you will want to show it off to others as the strangest movie in your collection.

I eventually bought it when I had a chance to get it really cheap, but I have to be in the right mood to watch it. You can youtube almost all of it last time I checked. It is also available on hulu plus. The atmosphere and the frantic over the top weirdness of it all reminds me of what would happen if you grabbed a mix of shows like Scooby Doo, Sid and Marty Croft 1970s fare like HR Pufenstuf and the Banana Slpits, Pee Wee Herman, the Monkees, and threw them all in with the Shining, Poltergeist, House that Dripped Blood, Amityville Horror, and non-nudie girls-getting-whacked horror flicks. Now that would be a movie!
