The review of 'The Phantom Carriage' on Blu-ray.com says the transfer is in 1080i

Is this true? I want to get one regardless but, I was just curious. Isn't this completely against the norm for Criterion?

Yes, it is...but that was the only way to properly preserve the original frame rate of the film. Some others here know more about this, but that is basically the reason behind it.
