I got the 25% off coupon and, just like last sale, bought a DVD instead of a blu. $40 for Eric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales was just too good to pass up. Besides, there's still some 10% and 15% coupons around for those pesky blus.

Although I really wanna get that Kenji Mizoguchi Eclipse set....

Here's what I would love to see:

1. La ciociara a.k.a Two Women (Vittorio De Sica)
2. The Cranes are Flying (Mikhail Kalatozov)
3. The Red and the White (Miklós Jancsó)
4. Les amants du Pont-Neuf a.k.a Lovers on the Bridge (Leos Carax)
5. Hiroshima mon amour (Alain Resnais)
6. Days of 36 (Theo Angelopoulos)

It goes without saying that any of these could and should be replaced when Michelangelo Antonioni's L'eclisse and L'avventura are ready for Blu-ray.

Day one purchases for sure on those two, just surprised those are taking longer to add to blu, although I like the fresh M.A. releases, just expected the earlier released DVD titles to be upgraded sooner. I think I love L'eclisse more, but it depends on my mood.

Last year there were no suitable HD masters for these. At least this is what I was told. I don't know what has changed since...February of 2011 (last inquiry).

These are my two favorite films in the Criterion collection, and it will be a very special day when they are announced for Blu-ray

It's baffling La Ciociara has never received a proper (or even remotely decent) North American release. It's more than deserving of a Criterion. I'd also love to see Hiroshima mon amour get an upgrade, since I haven't bought the DVD yet.

And as I mentioned on another thread, L'eclisse and L'avventura are up there as my very favorite Criterion films ever (L'eclisse is behind only 'Elevator to the Gallows' as my favorite). I'd LOVE for those to get upgrades.

Yes, you are absolutely right. It never appeared on a decent DVD release in North America. There is a very good Italian DVD release, part of the Cinema Forever series, but it is not English-friendly.

This film should appear in Criterion's collection.

That's very near the top of my 'wouldn't ask for it but would snap it up in a second' list. I'm always a little surprised when it doesn't come up during Le Samourai, Le Cercle Rouge type discussions.

Yes and yes. Or, ci and ci. Those could replace just about any other title, save a select few (Le Samourai, Jules and Jim being two).

It just has a Seventeen-minute alternate opening sequence, from an early edit of the film.

The "easy" Cassavetes to get into from that set is The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, due to content. Watch the first disc, the original 1976 135 min version and not the 1978 cut version. The 78' version works better for the content, but doesn't play like a Cassavetes-type film. The 76' original gives you the better idea of his long, drawn out, emotional scenes.

BTW, Husbands is my fav Cassavetes. So if you can rent that on Netflix, do so.

Cool, thanks. Added Husbands to my NetFlix queue. They have both cuts of Chinese Bookie too so that should hold me for a while.

He is without a doubt the biggest "missing person" from Japanese cinema in America IMO.

I know where I can find Eros plus massacre on dvd-r, but I would rather wait for a true dvd/blu.

Then next, everyone seems to go to A Woman Under the Influence. I like Opening Night as well. Hope ya like Husbands.

Can anyone tell me if there's a slipbox associated with Robinson Crusoe on Mars.
