I'm not that upset about price-drops. I know eventually that 85% of movies I buy/have bought will end up in a bargain bin at some point. I'm more interested in getting the movie so I can watch it.

It looks like they took both pre-orders down. What do you think...will our orders be cancelled?

Amazon pulled the pricing on those. I hope they honor my orders for Anatomy of a Murder and World on a Wire.

As I said before I have enough movies (or entertainment for that matter) to afford to wait for good prices.

It was not a big misprice so I think that we could see this honoured.

They cancelled my Cul-de-Sac pre-order when it was mispriced for $3 IIRC. I think that this is a different case. We will know soon enough

It is totally possible to understand and enjoy each as a stand alone movie without having seen the others, but White and Red both contain little moments that let it be known the whole trilogy takes place within the same world that would be lost on people who hadn't seen all three. To put it this way
[Show spoiler]Binoche has very short appearances in both

Now that they removed their initial price and order availability, it would not be surprising at all to see them cancelled within the next day or two.

However, I feel like if my pre-orders survive a week or so, they are probably safe to go all they way until release. I guess we'll find out. The less people that ordered probably the better for these type of deals.

Considering that World on a Wire was the #3 Bestselling BD today before they pulled the plug (This should make Spide Baby happy), and Anatomy of a Murder was #10, who knows.

My take is this: many of these films have been out over 50+ years and I've never seen them. Even if I have previous experience with a particular title I know I want - so what? Do I *REALLY* need to run out and buy the blu-ray right away within days or weeks of release? Not really. I can wait for the sales so I stay within budget. I pretty much apply that logic to everything I buy, films/blu-rays are no different. Especially when i can easily watch many on Netflix/VuDu/TCM etc anyway.

Depends on the film for me. Certain Criterions get pre-orders, others get ordered sporadically throughout the year, others are bought on sale from Amazon or B&N. Also, I can't really buy a Criterion readily in a store.

Stuff like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings is usually bought on release day, or in the case of Potter 7.2, a pre-order. Stuff like Doctor Parnassus gets regulated to the DVD bargain bin, because while it was pretty to look at, it's not one of my favourite Gilliam films, and I can afford to wait to get it.

It really depends on how badly I want to see the film.

La Jetee / Sans Soleil isn't available yet though.

Edit: La Jetee is really the only one not available on BD from Amazon yet. I've been adding the ASIN numbers in.
I forgot to check on World On A Wire. I was so excited to see the $16.99 price on Anatomy Of A Murder that I hurried and placed an order. Dammit, I wanted World On A Wire more than Three Outlaw Samurai

+1

One of the many things I love about indie/foreign films is the increased willingness to let people look like, you know...people.

No kidding, since both have been pulled. I pre-ordered Anatomy of a Murder, but even if it does get cancelled, I'll still pre-order it. I may switch to the Canadian site, depending on what price it shows up at, as sometimes the US site ends up being much more with the exchange, import tax, and shipping applied than the slighly higher Canadian price with 15% tax.

The prices on them don't seem to be low enough to warrant cancelling the pre-orders. If they were accidentally posted for under $10 then I'd see it. People are getting away with purchasing Criterions @ B&N for around $14 a piece and they're not doing much about it.

$33.98 for both Anatomy Of A Murder and World On A Wire would've been such a steal.

It's about 25 bucks, counting the shipping fee, for me to get this before the exchange rates are applied. Who knows where the dollar will be in February, I could be paying a bit less, or a bit more.

I just want the movie.

Criterions typically sell on Amazon for $27.99 barring any specials... that's an $11 swing... so yeah, I'd say its a pretty big price difference.

I do exactly the same but my budget fluctuates given the number of deals :P

I respect that but it doesn't work for me. I can wait for *any* movie, even the ones that I badly want to watch or re-watch. Back on-topic, I still have to watch 5 of the 12 Criterions I got from the last sale back in July. But I love to soak in on every Criterion title so it takes a little longer to devour the disc (and booklets!) than others. God I love these sets.

I've watched all 11 of mine, some more than once. I consume movies. My computer has been working overtime thes past few days as TCM has about 40-50 films I want to watch. My computer is my PVR, and it's been pretty much recording non-stop.
