Buy it. Yojimbo's fun. It's a fantastic remake of A Fistful of Dollars.

[Show spoiler]I was joking in case no one got that, AFFOD totally ripped off everything, although it was well done and enjoyable as well

I hope it's 12 monkeys. First film I purchased on DVD. Love that one, but haven't gotten the blu-ray yet because it looks like it's a pretty mediocre release. I actually sent Criterion a request for it, I'm sure they just hit delete on my email but I hope they get enough requests to consider getting it in their catalog...

The current release could be better but it's pretty decent overall and well worth the eight or so bucks it's going for these days.

It's a standard Universal HD-DVD 'port' AgentOrange...in high-ish rez, but not rescanned or remastered. All the special features are cloned from the DVD.

As octagon points out though, it's an overall decent Blu and dirt cheap right now. So if you've worn out your DVD...

I am horribly biased towards it, being my favourite film and all. It is an awesome transfer, the Rhino DVD is attrocious. Still can't believe I paid 30 bucks for that in 2008. But, I didn't know Criterion would be doing the BBS set in 2010, and I didn't even have BD then.

What do you think the chances are of seeing more Oshima on BD? That outlaw 60's set looks great, but I wish it was on BD.

Is there a difference between getting the Sanjuro/Yojimbo blurays separate as opposed to the set? And are they stand alone releases? I might just pick one of them up but don't know which one.

You get a slipbox to hold the two movies. Otherwise, they're the same.

They are stand-alones, as well as a set. I went with the set, because Sanjuro's a bit of a sequel to Yojimbo, but only because of Toshiro Mifune's character, Sanjuro, appears in both. It's much like The Man with No Name Trilogy in that regard. You can watch them as stand-alones. I'd recommend getting both, but if I had to choose one, I'd get Yojimbo first. I liked it better, and if you liked A Fistful of Dollars, which is awesome in its own right, you should love Yojimbo, as it's the original and superior film. AFFOD was an unofficial remake of Yojimbo. Kurosawa made more money off of AFFOD than Yojimbo actually.

I've seen it for as little as $6 at Best Buy. Even at that bargain bin price I hate double dipping and rewarding Universal with a sale on something they seemed to be very lazy and careless in producing.

But of course I've done very few double dips so far from films I previously had on DVD anyway. Eventually I'll probably give in and just get it since it's cheap and it's one of my favorites, that is unless there is news of a true remastering or Criterion picks it up.

I hope Criterion puts The Spirit of the Beehive on BD sometime in the next year. That's a great movie.

I struggled with this myself. In the end, I had to get it day 1 just because it's one of my favorite films. I've always thought the somber string during the climax set the perfect mood and feel of what was taking place. Would love a proper release from Criterion, but probably won't happen.

I just received my order of Pierrot Le Fou. Unfortunately, my bluray disc is loose in the case and can be heard when I move the case around. I havent opened it yet but am afraid the disc will be damaged. I don't know what to do. I can't return it at the store cause none have it in stock.
