I am hoping my upcoming stuff will be ok. It seem it's been worst then ever in this sale for damage stuff. I am hoping I won't have any problems as B&N is not eactly next door for me

This is only tangentially related to Criterion, but it does have connections. The Beaver has added several titles to their upcoming release calendar, including Rebecca, Spellbound, and Notorious. There are also a bunch of Woody Allen films listed too, including Annie Hall(!). The links all go to Amazon.ca, with release dates in January.

I know lots of us were hoping for Criterion to get some of the Hitchcock back, but I will be happy as long as they are quality releases.

I just found them, but it does not state whether they are Scanavo or not. 'Official' could mean almost anything on ebay...I guess you need to ask him before a purchase.....

I do know that "Anatomy of a Murder" is supposed to be 1.66 or 1.85, the DVD was lazily transferred as open matte. Mind you that better than mistakenly matting something thats supposed to be academy ratio or something.

Usually though after the advent of television, all theatrical features shot in academy ratio were at least cropped to a flat ratio for their theatrical presentation. So things like the "Bad Seed" aren't incorrect- as the studio complex would have them presented in such a manner.

Also:

I have a feeling that Bergman's "The Magician" was mistakenly transferred by Criterion as 1.33:1 when it's supposed to be matted to 1.66:1, boom mikes are visible from time to time. I doubt that two people as disturbingly driven as Nyquist and Bergman would allow booms to be in frame- just a feeling.
Perhaps it's a meta thing, about how film is an "illusion" or something.

I'd be in for all of those films, so long as money allows (but Annie Hall and Rebecca are instantaneous must-haves).

Pierrot Le Fou shipped from B&N this morning - half a month ahead of schedule. I'm fairly pleased about that and hoping that The Killing ships sooner than expected as well. Can't wait to watch them!

I ordered Yojimbo/Sanjuro last night and that's supposed to ship Monday or Tuesday, so they're actually fairly on top of the game right now. That was a nice surprise!

Yea, I was meaning to ask him about them, but I've gotten lucky with no broken cases in quite a while. Might pick some up just in case though.

Edit: Sent the seller a message so I'll post back what he says. Also got an email back from Mulvaney and I will be getting my slip boxes replaced. Criterion has probably the best customer service I've ever experienced.

My favorite is Lost Souls too. It was the cover that initially attracted my attention to want to see the film.

People on Sunday was my favorite (I'm guessing one of my runners up - The Killing - has to be one of the top two) and it was a tough choice.

Worst was actually pretty hard to pick too. I really didn't like The Great Dictator and Topsy-Turvy but finally settled on Naked...not only was it just sort of bleh, it didn't really represent the film particularly well. In fact, it kind of misrepresents it.

The Phanton Carriage cover had the exact same effect on me. They posted a little snippet of the cover as a newsletter or facebook hint and I was pretty much hooked then.

I went with Diabolique as "Best" and also went with "Naked" as worst.

Yup, if they are quality releases, its great news. Also being discussed here.

I went with 'Naked' as the worst too. The film is one of my very favorites but the cover doesn't properly represent it at all. There really is no significance to that art....I'd much rather they chose the poster art image of him standing alone in the fog. Even the old Criterion DVD had a better cover IMO.

That's what some have said here, but I'd actually consider getting an email reply very lucky. I never get replies back...and from what I've read here, a lot of other people don't either.

I actually got a reply the same day I sent the message. Maybe it depends on when you send it. On another note watched Crumb today. Pretty interesting documentary. Never heard of Robert Crumb until I seen it but it was fascinating to see his interactions with women and his family and how it related to his work.

Short of Preminger's ghostly declaration, Robert A Harris is as good as it gets.
Thanks TJS...Case Closed!

I saw this and got pretty excited
I don't mind that they're not going to be released by Criterion. I just hope the transfers are good.

I see Annie Hall and Manhattan listed. Any other Woody Allen movies?
