That's weird. I haven't visited a Books a Million in forever, I wouldn't have thought they'd even stock Criterions (or blu-rays at all for that matter).

I probably just think that because the one B-A-M in my city was always bordering on ghetto (very old and run down location), they did move their store to a new shopping center so perhaps I'll have to check them out and see what they have.

Went to BN and picked up Last Year at Marienbad. I was gonna also pick up NotH but they were sold out.

Anyone know if I can get a regular case for LYaM from criterion? I know they have it for 400 blows. I dislike the cardboard cases.

well, then I'll wait off again. Thanks. I believe BFI released a Borderline dvd anyways. Just need to get a region-free player around the holidays.

Default Defective audio on Three Colors: White?

In case you guys missed it, the following was posted in the Three Colors Trilogy thread. Any comments?

So I got this set in the mail yesterday and I'm concerned there may be a defect with the audio on "White." It wasn't clear until I got the set that the audio is 2.0 surround, not stereo. Meaning it is meant to be played with pro-logic turned on to create the surround mix from two channels. (It says to turn on pro-logic in the liner notes). Blue and Red definitely sound like proper surround mixes, but on White I am only hearing one channel. I put my ear right up against my other speakers and couldn't hear a peep. That would happen if the two audio channels are identical, which would be an error with the disc.

Anyone else experience this?

Every so often they have a 50% sale on their movies. If you spend $50 you get free shipping. That is when I ordered 6 plastic cases I needed to replace the cardboard sleeves, along with a movie to make the total over $50.

Lately, these 50% sales on films have happened when they reach X-number of "likes" on their facebook page. The last sale was a couple of months ago when they got 75,000 "likes" (the sale lasted for 75,000 seconds). I would expect the next one to be at 100,000 "likes" but who knows. You could just wait until then and pick up a few more 50% off movies in the deal to get the free shipping. That way your money goes to a film and not to the shipping. If you think you may want to buy more Criterions in the cardboard sleeves, I would just wait.

Just an option for you. Otherwise you need to buy enough (plastic cases, t-shirts, coffee mugs) to ge the free shipping, or just pay the $5 shipping.

I watched White yesterday.
My setup is a Panasonic BDT 110 in bitstream, plugged to a Yamaha RV-465, set in straight.
I definitely had a DTS-HD MA 2.0, which used both of my front speakers (quite nicely, by the way).

Black Shopping Week deal? I'd jump on it, but I haven't had a chance to preview it yet, and I'm still recovering from my car repairs and the B&N sale.

Don't get testy with me, Im on your side. You and I both bought defective product. We deserve better. Remember don't be mean, because when your mean to people that makes you a mean person- and thats bad.
Carlos was mean to people so often that Sudanese junta sold him to the French, and his party train came a swift halt. If Carlos was nicer to people he'd probably not be in the slam.
You're using Facebook for your back-up information? Bad move. Also, how many people is "countless" on Facebook? around 10, around 50, around 100, or around 10,000?

Your bolded statement is something I take issue with. You state that most people would never know that one of their speakers is silent for half the film, but since you discovered it, now everyone is claiming there's an issue.

It's not a disc authoring problem, it's an artistic choice.

World figures were largely background chatter in this setting. The chatter from the right was aggressive, angry and relentless while the left was mostly silent.

It's almost eerie the way the sound mix both figuratively and literally mirrors the geopolitical realities of the day.

They did an amazing job.

I've been toying with another approach but I don't know for sure that it will work. I'm thinking of ordering the two or three cases I definitely want (and maybe a print but probably not) and then adding a gift card to take me over fifty.

They're going to have a sale I like sooner or later so I won't have to worry about that money sitting unused indefinitely and this way I wouldn't have to worry about the cases I want going out of stock before the next CC house sale.

[Show spoiler]Or I could just pay the five bucks to ship the cases. I suppose that is technically an option
.

I believe Pro-B reviewed both the Optimum and Criterion editions of Carlos.
If he can confirm both versions have the same mix, then I think the matter is settled.
Now, if only Fanboyz would provide a specific time code and an accurate description of what he considers to be the problem...

Just noticed that. Must be the cheapest deal I've seen for a Criterion disc; I totally didn't expect that.

gotta love B&N sending me ANOTHER email asking me to approve a 30 day extension within 24 hours on Three Colors order or have it cancelled.
I already logged in like a week ago to let them know "I still want this" after a previous email.
uhh HELLO dumbass&%es 30 days hasn't passed after only a week.

Oooh, when did you order them? I'm still waiting for my copies of Kuroneko, Island of Lost Souls, The Magician, Amarcord, Dazed and Confused, The Four Feathers, and The Wages of Fear, all which shipped between the second and third of November. I'm not expecting Stagecoach or Kiss Me Deadly for another 2 weeks or so, since they only shipped about a week ago. I wonder why it takes so long to get stuff to Canada.

Amazon is preparing to ship 12 Angry Men and Army of Shadows. So that's now 11 Criterions in the mail system I'm waiting for.

As of right now, there's only about 15 or so titles on my wishlist left to get, that are "crucial." There are some other titles I saw and enjoyed that I may grab later, but the 15 I have now (at least until the March titles are annouced), are what I'm focusing on getting between now and the end of the July sale. I'll be grabbing at least one Criterion a month. Fortunately, Amazon has a couple that are around the 20 dollar range.

The opera-score is worth the price alone.

$11.99, I'm trying to fight the urge to buy an extra copy!

EDIT:

Naked is $18.49 also
