Must be an exclusive artistic license to Criterion then since other editions don't have the same problem.

He already mentioned it several times. The left surround is much quieter than the right one.

$11.99, I'm trying to fight the urge to buy an extra copy!
I like Orpheus, but Beauty and the Beast is somehow too much theatre for me.

Time code.
The whole of part 3?
One scene? Two scenes?
I've read all his posts and they are not specific.
More importantly, it is his opinion based on seeing only one edition of the film.
I'd like to hear from someone who has actually watched both the Optimum and Criterion editions.

I assume it's the whole thing. I think you can hear it in the very beginning, there's a swooshing logo that's almost missing the left surround.

EDIT:

Naked is $18.49 also

At that price you may as well get another. I think I'll snag another for my brother who doesn't yet have a blu-ray player.

My brother would take one look at it and hand it back asking if I could exchange it for Fast Five.

I'm not expecting Stagecoach or Kiss Me Deadly for another 2 weeks or so, since they only shipped about a week ago. I wonder why it takes so long to get stuff to Canada.

Amazon is preparing to ship 12 Angry Men and Army of Shadows. So that's now 11 Criterions in the mail system I'm waiting for.

As of right now, there's only about 15 or so titles on my wishlist left to get, that are "crucial." There are some other titles I saw and enjoyed that I may grab later, but the 15 I have now (at least until the March titles are annouced), are what I'm focusing on getting between now and the end of the July sale. I'll be grabbing at least one Criterion a month. Fortunately, Amazon has a couple that are around the 20 dollar range.
I must have placed that order on the 14th. I actually had two orders, which got split into three; I received "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" earlier, and I'm still awaiting "Harakiri" and "Science is Fiction." I'm stationed in the UK, so it's been a surprisingly quick turnaround time for all these; not sure what the hold-up is for Canada.

"The Magician" and "Wages of Fear" are brilliant. One of these days I'll have to watch "Dazed and Confused."

Next B&N sale, I hope to snag "12 Angry Men" and "Godzilla." I should be caught up by then, but there are still oodles of films I need to rent and explore.

My brother would ask me to return it, and buy myself MASH on BD, so he can upgrade his VHS copy with my DVD copy. Then he'd make me watch Swamp People, Larry the Cable Guy, or a crappy National Lampoon (current NL releases, not classics like Animal House or Vacation).

I shouldn't knock his film tastes too much, as he does like stuff like Sergeant York and a few other classic War films, in addition to the crap I listed.

Harakiri is fantastic. I bought it at B&N when I went to Maine and New Hampshire in October. I also grabbed Kagemusha and Pale Flower, which are also excellent titles.

I watched The Wages of Fear before I ordered it. I really enjoyed Diabolique, and wanted to check out more Clouzot. I actually enjoyed WoF much more, and found it to be one of the most intense films I've ever watched. I was literally on the edge of my seat, despite hating most of the characters, because, frankly, they were all *******s, with the exception of Bimba.

I pre-ordered 12 Angry Men and Gojira. Amazon is preparing to ship 12 Angry Men and Army of Shadows out as we speak. I can't wait to get 12 Angry Men, as Henry Fonda is one of my favourite actors.

El Norte, eh? I enjoyed it more than I was expecting to--this was one of those titles that sat on my shelf for ages before I finally popped it in. In any case, El Norte does a fairly good job of presenting "the issues" surrounding illegal immigrants--both their travels and their settling in. Not my favorite Criterion--actually, considering the over all strength of everything I've seen from them, El Norte ranks fairly low. But still a solid 4/5 when I rated it on Flixster.

I thought it was going to be better than it was. I enjoyed the lead character, so that helped, but ultimately I sort of thought I was watching a watered down Diary of Anne Frank or something.

The big attraction here, for me, was the behind-the-scenes look at how a theater would have operated. Little details like getting scripts approved by the censors just interests the heck out of me. So I got more mileage out of the film with these things, even though they're not major parts of the summary plot.

Well, it's my favorite film in the Criterion Collection, so I may be slightly biased. It was, I think, the second Criterion film that I watched (after In The Realm of the Senses--haha) and it captivated me right from the get-go. Just brilliant cinematography and cyclical use of music/spoken word.

The second viewing is just as good as the first.

How come you just give some people the answers, and some you make do their own work? On the tally board where I keep track of how you treat various people, I can't seem to find any real trends.

Darn it!

I knew I forgot something, Harakiri!

Now I am wondering if it's worth ordering considering how much they will charge me for shipping for one movie

He's lucky to have a brother keep a brand new copy of THE THIRD MAN for him when he is able to afford a blu-ray player.

It will be like 23 bucks US just for the single title, with a 15% off coupon. It's not that bad.

By a strange coincidence I dreamt last night that Criterion was releasing Fast Five, probably because I saw it in a bargain bin while shopping yesterday.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046268/...t/30542884?p=1 - I am fairly amused by this discussion on IMDB. The fact that it's 4 pages is hilarious, amazing, impressive, and sad all at the same time. Please discuss.
