http://www.amazon.com/Cannibal-Carst...2070984&sr=8-2 IMO it easily tops Salo, Antichrist, and In the Realm of the Senses for gross-out factor. Actually Salo was kind of a let down and ItRotS was just a lot of sex. |

Is it easier for Criterion to re-release one of their catalog films onto blu-ray since they have already cleaned it up on their Criterion DVD version? Or do they have to go through some restoration process all over again as if they are starting from scratch?

Titles like Branded to Kill, Tokyo Drifter, The Naked Kiss, Shock Corridor, Orpheus, The Red Shoes, Black Narcissus, etc. where a new DVD and a new Blu-ray are being released together CC has undergone a completely new restoration of the film. So some of them are easier, some aren't. |

Like most big sites, however, we would like to support our site, not be a redirecting platform. If you have a different point of view and would like to further the ongoing discussion, no one will "frown". If you are unsure whether what I have written above is true, then let me know and will provide direct links to examples where official restricting policies are introduced. But don't go suggesting that we are censoring traffic here when in reality we have one of the most liberal linking policies of any major site. Thanks. Wow, this thread moves along quickly.
![]() Regarding Harakiri, I agree with the sentiment of "Enjoy of film". If there are multiple BD releases of it, that were struck from different masters, then perhaps purchase the various releases, watch them, and decide what version you ultimately enjoy the most. Sell or trade away the version you do not want, or even keep them if they all have various strengths that endear them to you. ![]() For myself, if there is a film I absolutely LOVE, then I have no issues double, or even triple dipping, to find the version I consider the "definitive" one for my collection/tastes. ![]() Regarding Antichrist, I highly recommend this to any viewers who may be on the fence about giving it a spin. The supernatural/horror element is a very minor element in regards to what the film is about IMO. I think Antichrist would work just as well/play the same without any of the horror stuff at all...In other words, I just don't think it makes or breaks the film. Just my opinion. ![]() ![]() ![]() In regards to my collection, I keep the DVDs and BDs together on the shelves. All of them in order by spine number. ![]() |

My "incorrect observation" is based on my own personal experience on this site, and I know that there are other users on here who have experienced the same issue of either posts with links being deleted or receiving PMs from moderators politely asking not steer users to other review sites when a lot of hard work goes into this site by its reviewers. I'm not suggesting that blu-ray.com censors traffic, but I am saying that posts have been deleted in the past and polite suggestions have been made to myself and other users regarding posting links to outside sites. Personally, I do my best not to post links anymore because of the PM that I received, but I do recall that when I stopped posting links people actually commented on the fact that I had not posted the link to an outside review. We, obviously, appreciate all of the work that goes into this site or we wouldn't keep coming back. You're the reviewer for Criterion discs, which we all appreciate. I can't imagine some of the other reviewers on this site tackling a Criterion release for even one review. |

Just a note for everyone. This may have already been mentioned, so I apologize if it has been.
I spoke with Jon at Criterion, and the replacement discs for The Three Colors Trilogy, 'White' should be available in December. Feel free to contact Criterion to get on the list, and when they are available, they will contact you directly and advise on how to complete the exchange with them directly. Jon's email address is : mulvaney@criterion.com |

I can think of plenty of valid reasons why certain links have been removed. Let me give you a recent example: a site offering a "preview" - posting screencaptures and leaving a note that it will provide a "complete" review at a later point. I am sorry but this is a pretty cheap shot under the belt to generate traffic - and in addition to the fact that these early "reviews" actually "borrow" the film analysis from other writers. This is why certain sites, but not us, have actually introduced official polices to restrict what is referred to as "stealth-linking". The internet is for sharing information, but there is a lot of cheating going on with this sharing. I would repeat what I said earlier - we do not censor links and contrary to what some people would have you believe have the most liberal policy of all major sites. We do, however, expect some courtesy for our work because without it there simply won't be a site where you could share the information you like. I hope this makes sense. I personally haven't had a link remove from a post. But then again I don't go back to look.

But the more graphic elements (which aren't really any more over-the-top than the average episode of Boardwalk Empire) all seemed to have a point and more often than not were very viscerally effective. And yeah, it's definitely gorgeous. |

![]() I highly recommend it! I installed a surround system a few months back, and clearly hadn't previously realized what I was missing. I know now though, I was definitely missing out. ![]() |

I'm late to the thread today.... I'm surprised that people find Antichrist to be so shocking at all...except for a couple of explicit scenes, it's largely...umm..."emotionally volatile" (yeah, that sounds right). I would definitely not consider it 'shock for shock's sake'.
I got my Three Colors set in from B&N today, and, big surprise, the spine is damaged/creased... |
