I got Still Walking just for completist's sake, and was I surprised. The title I think it relates most in the collection is Yi Yi, which is another wonderful movie. Till now I hadn't thought about the similarities with A Christmas Tale (great, BTW), but they do have a lot in common.

Can't go wrong with any of these.

It's a shame the Eclipse Series isn't offered on blu-ray.

Watched Paris, Texas tonight for the first time. It was dragging along at the beginning but won me over completely by the end.

I hope it's not mine! My mother received my copy in the mail yesterday, so it hasn't been open yet, therefore I don't know if the disc is missing. It came from Amazon though. She's mad at me, because she wants to see it, but can't handle reading subtitles right now with all her school work and the fact that she still doesn't have her new glasses because the optical place she went to sucks.

Especially on the Criterion section I'd expect that the majority of the people here are cinema lovers and not just techies. I like blu ray because it looks and sounds better, but i dont notice or care about the technical aspects of the video or sound quality.

I hope that most of the people are on this site because of their love of cinema, not their love of techie stuff
This. We all have different tastes though, obviously. You enjoyed Black Swan, I didn't.

As I said before, I wouldn't call the others techies, because a lot of it is just personal opinion, and half the time a complaint comes up about a film, it's from someone who doesn't have their TV "set correctly" or someone who doesn't know anything about film grain, or some other silly excuse that may or maynot be true, but someone thinks it, and therefore, the rest do too. I guess when I think of a film techie, I would expect to see a lot more classic cinema that innovated and/or invented new technical achievements in their collections, rather than all "modern" films, because they are interested in the art of film making, and not just because something looks pretty.

I say that, yet I hate Avatar. I can appreciate what Camron did, but the film was not entertaining to me, although it looked very pretty.

I do agree that something like The Fortune Cookie is a better fit, though. I'd love to see that down the road.
I guess it depends on Fox, since The Apartment is getting a BD release in January:Canadian site only because the US appears to be OOS

Yes it is! I would buy those sets that you are interested in, the chances of many of these going to Blu-ray are small. Only exception I think would be the ones in the Late Ozu set.

The same thing happened to me when I opened my BD of The Bridge Over the River Kwai.

My very first time in this thread, so forgive me if you all know about this, but considering the recent "Criterion devotee vs. populist fare" posts here, check this out:

Thanks for all the coffee spray on my monitor Kristian Idol!

The whacky thing is, a couple of those movies happen to be personal guilty pleasures (Zardoz and Killer Klowns from Outer Space), and if Criterion ever did offer them, heck I'd buy.

I wish there was more of Sanjuro. Two films is not enough. Man he was such a badass. One of my favorite movie characters ever.

Anyone check out the link in the slide show to the original site? Some of those are just precious:
[Show spoiler]

I'd actually buy the last one, it's not a good film, but it still awesome. Vincent Price + Roger Corman + Edgar Allan Poe adaptation of sorts = Win!

Don't say that! Someone might get the foolish idea to attempt to remake the films, by getting Uwe Boll to direct, or do a whole chain of horrible sequels!

In no way did I mean I would like a remake or sequel to be made now. I just meant it would've been cool for a third installment by Kurosawa. On another note, I saw High and Low and thought it was great. That film really grabs you from beginning to end. I loved every minute of it. There was never a dull moment. Its seriously one of the greatest films I've seen. I can't wait to watch more Kurosawa. I wish there was more non samurai Kurosawa films by Criterion.

I would probably get Very Bad Things, just because of how awesome the cover is. I've never seen Drive Angry, but that cover would also make me buy it.

I know what you meant, I was being snarky, because much like how everytime a bell rings, an angel gets its wings, everytime someone says I wish there was another film with this character, or I really like this old film, Hollywood does a horrible remake.

By that logic, though, no films these days would ever be creative or original because every story has been told in some way or another. It is merely in the way the story is told that makes it creative in people's opinion. Don't mistake me, although I like Inception, I am no fanboy.

EDIT: I do, however, agree that it is overrated.
