Have fun. I know there is alot of people that dislike Pleasures of the Flesh, the first in the set, but keep going if your one. IMO, Oshima didn't make 1 bad movie in the 60's.

My 10 CC Blu-Rays (of the moment, in no order - just off the top of my head):

Pale Flower
Paths of Glory
Seven Samurai
Modern Times
Repulsion
Night of the Hunter
Wages of Fear
Island of Lost Souls
The Music Room
Stage Coach

I haven't seen too many that aren't yet on blu-ray

Some that I have on DVD or watched via Streaming that I want to see on blu-ray soon:

Vengeance is Mine (recently watched this on VuDu, they have a pretty decent selection of Criterions, even a couple of selections from Eclipse which surprised me, I'm going to watch Wooden Crosses next)
Le Trou
Sword of Doom
Le Doulos
Le Samourai
Royal Tenenbaums

I was shocked to see it voted least favorite release..it's one of my favorites!

And on the subject of favorites, the top 10 lists we're doing aren't strictly Blu-rays, but DVDs too, right? Here's mine (off the top of my head, might be forgetting some):

[Show spoiler]Elevator to the Gallows
L'Eclisse
Naked
Salo
Fat Girl
Pale Flower
Vivre Sa Vie
Last Year at Marienbad
L'Avventura
Chungking Express

Does anyone else hate the ending of The Bad Sleep Well? I mean it wasnt a bad ending or anything, I just hated that it ended like that.
[Show spoiler]Im not a person who always has to see the protaganist win but in this case I wanted the bad guy to atleast suffer some kind of consequence. This ending left a bitter taste in my mouth. Kind of like the ending of Chinatown

Anybody else feel that way?

A Top 10 Criterions for today:

The Story of a Prostitute
The Passion of Joan of Arc
Battle of Algiers
Onibaba
The Magician
Viridiana
Brand Upon the Brain!
Ran
Wild Strawberries
Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages

Just watched The Magician blu again. Such a brilliant restoration job. Let's see some other Bergmans make the Criterion blu-ray cut, soon, complaining or no. The excitement of Fanny and Alexander has already worn off.

Ten of my favorites in no particular order (of those I've watched, and many others could just as easily be in this list):

Berlin Alexanderplatz
The Last Temptation Of Christ
Cries And Whispers
L'Avventura
That Obscure Object Of Desire
The Lost Honor Of Katharina Blum
Last Year At Marienbad
Bad Timing
Masculin Feminin
Cria Cuervos

Would make for some awesome blu-rays.

That's exactly why I like both The Bad Sleep Well and Chinatown, because they're bitter endings.

Mystery Train is perfectly dreary. Thieves is classic storytelling at its best. And Solaris is enthralling. But to each his or her own! Variety is the spice of life.
Silence of the Lambs has become so oversaturated into pop culture, I'm sick of it. It's no longer shocking or daring, because you see worse on Criminal Minds, or other crime shows, each week. It's a well-made film, and if it didn't become so mainstream, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

Mystery Train just didn't appeal to me. I couldn't get into the film at all, and I wanted to like it.

I did enjoy Bicycle Thieves to a certain extent, but at the same time, it's not a film I'd revisit often. I probably should have bolded it, and added the comment that I have to be in a certain mood to watch it.

As for Solaris, I found it to be dull. I just couldn't get into it. Pretty to look at, but just dull.

Since I've made my list, I'd like to add that I enjoyed both The Four Feathers and Amarcord.

Well it looks like I'll be paying more for my Criterions, as I don't think I'll be using B&N for online orders again. I'll still buy in-store when I go to the States, but I'm very hesitant about ordering from them online now. Still no resolution about my duplicate copy of Dazed and Confused. If only it had been a duplicate of the Four Feathers, then I could have been able to give it to my mom.

Amazon.com has a bunch of titles I want at roughly the B&N sale prices, maybe 1-2 bucks more, but at least their customer service is better, and I get stuff within a week to a week and a half.

I'm disappointed, considering I've spent quite a bit of money at B&N over the past few months. It's a bit of a pain because I don't normally sell/trade stuff online, and refuse to use Paypal for anything, and I need to figure out how to get rid of my extra copy.

Anyways, as I said in my previous post, I watched The Fout Feathers last night, and have noticed that it doesn't garner a lot of discussion on here. I really enjoyed the film, and it blows the most recent one out of the water. I was a bit surprised by the booklet, as it's more of a fold-out than a proper booklet. I'm curious as to why Criterion chose that instead of their normal booklets, even for "thinner" booklet content.

I've watched 3 of the Oshima's and Japanese Summer: Double Suicide (one of SpiderBaby's picks) is next in line. I'm looking forward to it...
I haven't really thought about the Fuller set - did you like it?

Here's my top ten (blu-rays only) and in no particular order:
The Leopard
Paths of Glory
The Rules of the Game
The Battle of Algiers
The Thin Red Line
Vivre sa vie
Yojimbo/Sanjuro Box Set
Seven Samurai
Les quatre cents coups
Three Colors trilogy

Even narrowing it down to ten is very hard. So many great films just missed the cut.

Although I have made the switch to blu-ray and am reluctant to buy DVDs anymore, the fact is that the films in these sets are unlikely to ever see upgrades, so there is no sense in holding out like I did for so long with the Larisa Shepitko films.
I couldn't agree more! I picked up 20 eclipse sets during the sale (B&N managed to lose 3...), and it has been a pleasure to make my way through them. So far I've watched the Hiroshi Shimizu, Larissa Shepitko, and half of the Raymond Bernard. Looking forward to Silent Naruse, Late Ozu, and Early Sam Fuller.

In the meantime many of the Blus I picked up have gone unwatched....

I got a refund, but no instructions as to what I'm supposed to do with the extra copy of Dazed and Confused, nor did I receive an email from them stating they would be refunding me. I'm concerned that they think I'm a scam artist or something now, and don't know what to do with the bloody BD. I did spend close to 1000 bucks or more there in the past 6 months, but will that matter? I've complained twice since September, once because Canada Post misplaced a parcel temporarily, back in September, and now this. I also feel like a paranoid idiot about all this, because I really don't know what to do.

I'm also still waiting for another package that they sent out on the 13th.

But what do I do with the extra copy of Dazed and Confused? Customer Service verbally told me to hold onto it, and I'd get an email about what to do with it, and how the issue would be resolved. I didn't receive an email. I'm in panic mode right now, so I'm probably not thinking logically. I just don't want to seem dishonest or anything.

If I were you, I would probably hold on to it. I suspect a part of the shipping and handling includes some sort of insurance and this would have been covered?

That's the thing with international shipping... impulse buys are a no-no since the product arrives 10-15 working days from the date of purchase, expiring the shopping high from in-the-moment splurges.

Oh that's way too much. It's under 15 in July at B&N.
