That's the thing with international shipping... impulse buys are a no-no since the product arrives 10-15 working days from the date of purchase, expiring the shopping high from in-the-moment splurges.

It wasn't an impulse buy though, it was a screw up on B&N's behalf. They split my order up, and sent me two copies of an item, instead of 4 different items:

I ordered the following in a single order:

Yeah, that was for my neurosis.

I know how you feel though, as I would rather have the movies than the refund.

I am getting the movie, from Amazon instead (and paying more, but Kuroneko's just that awesome that I will pay more for it, and should be getting it on Friday apparently).

I don't mind the refund. It's just that now that I have the refund, what do I do with the extra copy they goofed on? I never received anything about sending it back, so I feel guilty about still having it and essentially having it for free, and I'm afraid that months later, they will recharge me for it because I didn't send it back or something, and I'm now thinking that I'm on a watch list with them because of that, and because I sent them 2 emails (one Saturday, and one last night because I never heard anything from them) and called them (Saturday) about this order.

I mean, Dazed and Confused is an enjoyable film, and the set is really nice, but it's not nice enough that I need two copies of it.

Change of subject, any predictions for next Thursday's announcements yet? Criterion hinted at David Lean's Blithe Spirit, and the latest picture posted seems to indicate we might get Brazil and/or Grand Illusion as well, since they're showing scenes from it, and the John M. write-up mentions Brazil is his favourite film, and he began working at Criterion in 1984. Brazil's title was almost 1984 1/2. I think Citizen Kane would be too hard to get, unless they cough up the big bucks.

Brazil is good. Although, I had seen it after reading 1984.

As good as the film is it doesn't compare to 1984.

I don't think they are saying that Brazil is coming soon. Instead, they are advertising a new part of the website, apparently called "My Criterion."

Lets hope Brazil gets real this time around. One of my most anticipated upgrades (Thought, far behind The Cranes are Flying and/or Taste of Cherry) and one title I expect I great package from.

I've seen Pleasure of the Flesh from the Oshima set, and was struck by its bleak view of humanity. It's a small film, but very intriguing; Hollywood it ain't.

Next year, I definitely intend to finish the set and to watch those you mention as well.

I'm up in arms about them. I always make my own Christmas cards, and this year used American Kodak (why can't the same formats be available on the Canadian site?). I made the cards as soon as I could when I returned from my trip last month, and the cards were mailed November 23. I get antsy each time I open my mailbox, then blow my lid when I see they haven't arrived. I just hope to get the cards by the end of next week.

I think that the average customer service rep there just isn't equipped to answer a question pertaining to "international" returns so your query is probably awaiting a manager to get around to answering it.

It's nice that you're honest and want to resolve the issue but the fact is it is their screw-up, and since you contacted them about it and were refunded, it's up to them to follow up like they said they would and resolve the issue. Hold it until you hear something from them, and don't worry about it.

Yeah, like I said, I'm probably being paranoid about the whole thing, or Canadian.

I think Animal Farm and Brave New World are about equal. I actually prefer Harrison Bergeron (the short story), Cat's Cradle, Slaughterhouse-Five, and A Clockwork Orange (the novel is better than the film, especially since Kubrick adapted the butchered version). Actually, I prefer everything Vonnegut has ever written to Orwell and Huxley. Yes, even Slapstick, which he considered to be one of his worst novels, and which was made into a horrific abortion of a film with Jerry Lewis, Marty Feldman, and Madeleine Kahn (among many other well known names).

The only Gilliam film that I wasn't exactly enamoured with was Parnassus, but then, I haven't watched Tideland yet. I fail as a Gilliam fan.
