I would really like to see more films by Hirokazu Kore-eda. Still Walking was simply amazing and the rest of his work looks great too. Hopefully Criterion gets more of his stuff.

I want some George Roy Hill added. Doesn't have to be The Sting or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but The World of Henry Orient would be very, very nice. We'd get some Peter Sellers, super *****y Angela Lansbury, Tom Bosley, and Paula Prentiss added as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_of_Henry_Orient

I am ashamed to say I paid 25 bucks for the DVD 3 years ago, because I wanted it that badly. Thank-you Robert Osbourne and TCM for showing this gem.

haha, Wow! You responded from a post on Page 1 written in 2009.

I have to disagree - Wong Kar-Wai movies are not blind-buy films. I absolutely hate him (but will still see what he does next so that I can finally like one of his films).

Yea buddy, STRAY DOG is one of my favorites. Kurosawa + Mifune =

DRUNKEN ANGEL is also good but not as good IMO.

Did someone say THE LAST TEMPTATION? That would be sick news.

Speaking of blind buys, wow, I was really impressed with REVANCHE. Been thinkin about it for a few years and finally grabbed it at the last BN sale. I wasn't quite sure how it would work with no soundtrack or score to speak of but the film delivered.

Have to say you are right Wong Kar-Wai and blind buy don't go together very well

That's a great freaking idea. In fact, if they ever do that I'll buy you one. I won't even use a coupon

Yeah, they'll probably do a decent enough job too. They treated the last DVD release pretty well and for all the (sometimes deserved) pissing and moaning they are capable of very good releases.

I think the DVD was either open matte or pan & scan, but was not supposed to be very good.
I saw it in a neighborhood theater when I was twelve or so and thought it was great. And yeah, the DVD is pretty horrible. The aspect ratio is bad enough but it looks like somebody sat down at their pc and ran a VHS capture program (the NF stream isn't much better). The good news is I caught a little of it on MGMHD last summer and it looked great. So it hasn't completely fallen through the cracks.

Have never seen The Last Temptation of Christ so I am looking forward to see it. The general response seems to be positive overall so it may come as a good blind-buy when the time comes. Seeing how we are less than a week away from the March slate, what are your predictions? This and Blithe Spirit are already confirmed but what about the rest ? I have been patiently waiting for the Wild Strawberries and The Cranes are Flying upgrades. But, honestly, I don't have idea of what to expect now .

Absolutely love: What's Up, Tiger Lily?, Take the Money and Run, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Crimes and Misdemeanors

Not really crazy about: Bananas, Sleeper, Everything You Always Wanted to Know, Manhattan

Haven't seen Annie Hall yet. I hear good things though.

And it figures that The Last Temptation of Christ is getting a release after I bought in during the July sale.

Along with the BRD Trilogy, also picked up during that same sale.

And both of which I will upgrade post-haste.

So all, be on the lookout for an upgrade to Vampyr, which I also bought during that sale. I'm fairly confident that Berlin Alexanderplatz will not be an upgrade anytime soon.

And it's stricly OOP DVDs for me hence.

Any of these will make my day. I have yet to see something from Frampton (But knew about him of course ). The Gold Rush would be really welcomed and Weekend may completely make my day as we seriously need some Godard. I don't know what to think about Y Tu Mama Tambien, after highly anticipating it the whole year I kind of gave up already (The same goes to Wild Strawberries).

Really? Sleeper is probably my second favorite Allen film (I know he has "better" movies, but I watch that one more than any other).

Annie Hall is my absolute favorite though

The Howard Cosell bit was pretty funny. And to be fair, I was pretty young when I saw both Sleeper and Bananas. I might feel differently if I ever give them another look.

Anyone get the My Criterion email?
You can pretty much add your collection to a list and share it with friends.

Last Temptation of Christ on BD is awesome news! It's one of my favorite religious pictures, because its a parable almost like a play on screen. Day 1 or closest sale for sure.

I never really cared for Y Tu Mama Tambien. I would rather Criterion release 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days. I think that film goes nicely with Revanche.

I seem to be in the minority who prefer pre-Annie Hall Allen, even if I don't hate both Annie Hall or Manhattan but very few of his movies after these two have really interested me.
I have a preference for late-70s and early to mid-80s Woody. Of course Annie Hall and Manhattan are classics. I also really like:

Interiors - very serious Bergmanesque Woody but quite compelling
Hannah and Her Sisters - great cast all round
Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy - light Woody but very funny
Stardust Memories - love the black and white images

Of the later ones....

Crimes and Misdemeanors - a very dark morality tale
Deconstructing Harry - very funny and foul-mouthed Woody

Well, that's one film I'd love them to release. I still am not holding my expectations high (though I believe a release other than Criterion's of this film might be possible soon).

Some other movies I'd like them to release in the near future are Pasolini's Trilogy of Life... That would go pretty well with Salo

The Last Temptation of Christ is an amazing film. I hope it comes out on Criterion BD - absolute grab.

Trivia - the ending frames with the random bright colors resulted from faulty exposure of the film negative and were not intentional.

Quick question(s)... with GODZILLA coming out soon I just thought I'd ask a question about Criterion and "Giant Monster films"... I've heard some quotes saying that Criterion has the rights to release THE X FROM OUTER SPACE.. is this true? Also, any chance of Criterion releasing THE BLOB on blu since they have it out on DVD already?
