I do it on this site.... I use the "collection" feature here for MY tracking purposes, not for any other reason.

It's big and that is it, bring's nothing to a story for me. It's like the very loud sound system theaters or certain people have. Bigger and louder for me does not equal better.
To clarify, I won't go to an IMAX theater for anything that isn't shot (or at least partially shot) on IMAX (or 65mm/70mm in general). Because if we're talking shooting medium, rather than just projection medium, it's not a simple question of screen size...it's a matter of incredible image resolution.

If it's a film I really enjoy, and it's a high quality release, I have no problem spending $30-40 on it. Nowadays, even people that could afford it, are a bit too stingy, and won't spend more than $10 on a movie....even if it's one they really enjoy. More and more people also seem to be less concerned with the quality now. I don't know what happened!

I'd rather spend $30-40 on a high quality BD, with no extras than spend $10 or maybe $15 on a release with a ton of features and sub par picture and audio.
Agreed with every word. I mean, I love a bargain as much as anyone else, and getting a great release of a great film at a great price is the best (Taxi Driver, Day One, $12.99)...but for a film that I love, $30 or $40 isn't too much, so long as the PQ and AQ are top-notch.

Extras are nice, as well, but most definitely secondary to the actual film presentation.

I just watched Peeping Tom for the second time. Caution: There is also a spoiler for Psycho in my little review.

[Show spoiler]Not sure why I didn't appreciate this years ago when I first watched it, but I'm glad I finally see it for what it is. A joyfully menacing film that dares us to look at ourselves and see our most devilish desires. The soundtrack blares with piano tunes reminiscent of those that accompanied silent films decades before and immerses us in the cinema surroundings that envelope the film while mixing in the screams of bloodshed and murder that, although tame by today's standards, packed a gut wrenching punch for it's own era. One thing I do love is that the ending isn't nearly as drawn out as we would normally expect. With Psycho you had the debriefing before the shot of Norman echoing his mother's voice, further informing the audience of what we already know. I'm not saying that it's necessarily a bad move, but with Peeping Tom we're given just enough to infer on our own and once the focus of our main character is over and done with, so are we and I think it's that ending, with an explanation but no further emphasis on the subject and letting the audience understand is what makes it ambiguous and haunting.

I finally watched my PVRs of Ivan the Terrible Pt. I and II, and although the propaganda was a wee bit heavy handed, I wouldn't mind for a Criterion upgrade of these two titles. The costumes were gorgeous and fantastic; I thought they were far better than a lot of modern Hollywood productions set in that same time period (i.e. Elizabeth).

Welcome to the cinema of Sergei Eisenstein

I really enjoy his movies but yes they sure were propaganda tools use by Staline and the communist of that time. Check out Alexander Nevsky and see how they were getting everyone ready for a war with Germany.

I think it's about time Criterion ends its Chaplin dry spell.

Plus, in a few weeks we should be getting a New Year's card. Anyone care to make predictions as to what will be on the card?

I really hope it shows:

I am wanting this way too much, and it's highly unlikely, but I'd like to see two teenage girls in rice hats blowing gum while peering over a rock at one of your clues.

I'll have to check it out, I have a bunch of stuff I need to watch. I loved the whole emphasis that Moscow was the 3rd Rome, and Rome would not fall again, repeated several times throughout the films.

For anyone who did not pick up a copy of Monsoon Wedding, there is a post in the 'deals' thread for a used copy from one of Amazon's sellers for $8.80, shipped free if you have Prime. A super price and a pretty good film. I put a link below.
