I checked a few other recent post-sale releases (Tokyo Drifter, Design For Living, Rushmore) and they also don't offer this option.

I know it's been said that B&N is scaling back their in-store music & music departments so I'm wondering if people have seen any new Criterion releases at their local stores.
I've only ever been in B&N twice in my life, once in the Portsmouth, NH store, and the following day, the Augusta ME store. The Augusta one is about 9 hours or so from me.

I think it's just that they're new, and haven't been added to store inventory/site hasn't been updated yet. I can look up The Three Colors, and see it's in-stock in Portsmouth and Augusta when I search the August zip code within a 100 mile radius, (definitely get more hits with the Portsmouth zip), but I can't look up the Decmeber releases, or the later November releases.

edit: stupid link doesn't work.

I think previous poster is accurate as to the issue being as simple as the product pages missing the "search button". If you cut/paste the EAN# into a search string/URL that works from an older title, you should be able to see the status for these newer titles in your area.

I was able to search for Design for Living and Rushmore and see that there is stock showing for them.

Where do I find the EAN #?
AgentOrange has the trick correct. It is a website issue like I thought.

It's the UPC Code under Full product details:

Full Product Details -
Branded to Kill
Product Details

UPC: 715515090414
Source: CRITERION
Region Code: A
Aspect Ratio: Cinemascope (2.35:1)
Presentation: B&W, Wide Screen
Language: Japanese
Subtitles: English
Time: 1:31:00
Sales Rank: 5,228

This is the part you need to change in your look up link for Three Colors in bold, replace it with the Branded to Kill UPC above. you link will be different than mine:
http:// video.barnesandnoble.com/search/store.asp?EAN=715515089012&distance=2&zipcode=04333&x=90&y=14

Also, to change the default distance of 50 miles, to 100 miles, change the distance=2 to distance=3.

Criterion is always at risk of losing the licensing to release films. I think that comes with the territory of being the middle-man. Some of the titles, though, that Studio Canal has released under their own Collection label are licensed by Criterion from other studios.

I'm pretty sure the rights for the DVD of Breathless were licensed from Genius Entertainment whereas the blu-ray is licensed from Pretty Pictures. So, possibly from the time that Criterion released their DVD of Breathless to the blu-ray release the rights to the film switched companies.

Le Cercle Rouge, I believe, is licensed from Rialto Pictures by Criterion.

How can you not love the image of Frank Zappa walking a cow and having a serious conversation with Mike Nesmith.

If that were the cover, I'd love it much more than this:

I'm not going through that and Suzukifying it. I also tried just searching the UPC # (for Branded To Kill) and it returned the same page I've been looking at, without the "Find In-Store" button. It's only available online according to my searches.

I guess I'll just have to go there and see for myself.
Ok, when you get to B&N, open two tabs - one for Branded to Kill, the other for Three Colours.

On the Branded to Kill one, click the link that says product description, and copy the UPC number listed there.

Go to the Three Colors tab, and type your Zip code into the the find in store box, and hit the button to do a store search. In your address bar, once you're come up with the store locations for Three colours, copy the UPC code for Branded to kill in the EAN=<three colors UPC code> section of the address.

This is just an example:

http:// video.barnesandnoble.com/search/store.asp?EAN=715515089012&distance=3&zipcode=04333&x=8&y=27

The bolded is where you would paste "715515090414," the UPC for Branded to Kill. My web link is different because I'm using a different zip code.

I noticed the absence of the "Find In-Store" option as well. I called my local store today and they had received one copy of Branded to Kill (BD), which I asked them to put aside for me. My store(s) have been stocking new titles, but don't seem to stock more than one, until well after their release date. I want to stop by on Friday (3 days from now) and see if they will hold them until next week (in the event that this 40% off all BDs sale is legit).

I could not see the "Find In-Store" option for Rushmore on their website.

That's because the button is not there. But the lack of a button doesn't mean you can't search, you just need to copy/past the correct product number into the search string.

I took the liberty of searching it for your zip code, hopefully the URL works

http://video.barnesandnoble.com/sear...569&x=102&y=22

edit: and sadly when I copy the URL it doesn't work. That happens with coupons as well when copied to this website, but if you follow the instructions someone else supplied above it should work from your computer. It looked like for Rushmore 3 stores near zipcode 12569 had it, and 2 didn't.

Not directed at me, but the link comes up "can't find what you're looking for"

Same thing happened with me when I tried to post mine.

AGREED!

BTW Pat...I've watched two of the four films in the Shimizu Eclipse set and love them so far. I'm trying to not blow through them too quickly, so that I can savor them.

The best way I can describe Shimizu's style is Ozu-esque as far as casting and writing and VERY Naruse-esque as far as framing, camera shots, and pacing. There were times when I felt a great deal of Naruse in his style...but he manages to bring his own sensibilities to all of his films. I think you would really enjoy this set of films!

I cannot wait to receive it but these B&N are just taking forever to get to my house

The next set I really have to get (I have no clue why I never got it before) is Kenji Mizoguchi Fallen Women. Too bad my favorite movie of his is not in this set and does not include Miss Oyu in it

Agreed on the Mizoguchi set...I almost bought it this past sale, but had already bought the Nikkatsu Noir set and decided to add the Shimizu set at the last minute. That, plus the fact that I rented all the films in that set from NetFlix, when I still had my disc rental option.

We're horrible. It's right after Davy's dancing with Toni "Oh Micky you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Micky, hey Mick" Basil. I totally didn't catch you said Mike instead of Davy.

i was always more partial to this candid shot:

I think the Mystery Train poster may soon be mine. With the code and a $10 gift certificate it's mine for $9

Now, for some more Jarmusch upgrades....

Are you still spending $50 on other items for free shipping, though, or are you paying $5+ for shipping on top of the $9 poster?
